We usually spend the weekend enjoying the outdoors, grilling, enjoying some adult beverages – we like it to a relaxing weekend.

  2. Trudy

Since moving out to the country we stay home on fire watch. I am always shocked how many people think it is okay to use fireworks surrounded by dry grass. Luckily we can see the town fireworks from our house on the hill.

  3. CelineB

I usually do a pretty quiet 4th. My neighborhood sounds like a war zone the entire week before and after, so I usually hang out with my scared dog. My family does burgers, chips, corn on the cob, and apple pie as our dinner celebration.

  4. Kate Sparkks

We eat, like everyone else in the country and watch the PBS 4th celebration.

  5. bastdazbog

Staying at home with the family. Looks like a great selection of books!

I spend the Fourth watching fireworks from our dock. It is such fun having our family together.

  7. jmesparza821

A couple of my cousins and friends we all get together and have a cookout. The younger kids have fun (adult sipervision) popping firecrackers.

We celebrate it normally by attending a BBQ by one of our kids. This year they’re all away so it will be watching it on TV.

  18. Nicole Potter

Happy Independence Day! When I was little, my whole extended family used to get together for a day of fun, eating and fireworks! As I’ve got older though, it’s mostly just my husband and I grilling and watching nightworks together!

  19. Pennie

Since I work nights, I’m spending the afternoons reading, sleeping, repeat

I celebrate the 4th by staying at home and watch all the festivities on TV. Much more enjoyable and safer! I make tacos and I’m all set! 🙂 Now if only people would stop shooting off fireworks in the neighborhood… Kinda scary!

  36. Patricia B.

We usually go over the mountain to NC to be with our oldest daughter and her family for a cookout. In the past we have had to leave before the fireworks because my husband had to be to work the next morning. This year our Honor Flight group was invited to be a guest of Pepsi who sponsors the 4th of July celebration in the city. They provided a tent for us to give out information and collect donations. We got VIP passes to park on site, wonderful because they were shuttling people in from two lots 3 and 8 miles away. They also provided a Bar-B-Q dinner for us. The event lasted all afternoon until the fireworks at 10PM. They had country and blue grass bands, from 9 to 10 drew for giveaways, and had several ceremonies honoring veterans. My husband was one of about 10 Vietnam veterans that were honored with a framed citation and a pin for the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. While they were waiting to go onstage, a storm hit and drenched everyone. Many left, but the rain moved out, and it was clear for the fireworks. It started raining again not 15 minutes after they finished.

  37. Marty C.

This year? Sitting in the house while torrents of rain fell outside and chugging Robitussin to tame the cold from hell. Definitely not my best holiday weekend, lol.

  38. Cynthia Powers

Usually at home. My dad barbecues something tasty, my mom and I make strawberry rhubarb pie, and we usually sit on the back porch after dinner lighting sparklers.

  39. Elizabeth Andreas

watching Independence Day on TV and then the fireworks that night.
