A Child’s Christmas by Kate James: Can you imagine being given the news that your child only had a year to live? If that? Well that is the news that 23280166Paige Summerville was given at in November and being a single mother well it wasn’t the easiest thing to handle. Now forced with what might be the most trying year of her life she had to figure out how to make it one of the best.

Daniel Kinsley a high powered and priced family lawyer was sick of the pretending that happened during the holidays. After all no one lived the Norman Rockwell version of life. Reality was much more unpleasant and he was getting caught up in the unhappiness. What was he going to do?

Then a foundation that helps grant the wishes of terminally ill children enters both Paige’s and Daniel’s lives. Who would guess that this Christmas and the foundation would grant both of them more than a young boy could ever wish for? The only question was whether his diagnosis would turn out to be true or not.

It’s one heck of a way to open a novel, one you think is a romance one at that, to see an opening regarding a young child’s death. It was a shocker and to be honest with you had me hesitating to read further, the last thing I want to read is about children dying especially around the holidays. This novel though wasn’t about death, it was about gaining/learning your own strength, about gathering friendships, seeing the good and realizing in our weaknesses can emerge our greatest strengths. While admittedly the descriptions at times were lacking and the romance bit of the story could have used more, the overall story was both heart tugging and warming leaving the reader with a very feel good feeling. Keep some tissues close, be prepared to feel and remember sometimes we have to make our own magic.
