In A Wedding at the Blue Moon Café by Cate Masters, Clarissa Hartman left her painful and miserable life the day she turned 18. She drove for days running away until she found herself in Marfa, Texas and found a home. She has been there for seven years now and has no plans of leaving for any reason.

Dylan Wall is at the top of his game, his company is the best and at it’s most successful. His PR firm is sought out by brand name companies and other people’s representatives to make the right spin for their image. But deep down he is not completely happy with just that anymore. Now he is taking a short vacation to Marfa, Texas for his friend Jeff’s wedding, where he will act as his best man.

Only when he first arrives, he finds that his friend couldn’t book him a hotel room and he will be staying in a tepee. There are no facilities in the room but a bed and a skylight. The facilities are outside and common. So he decides to wait until nighttime to take a shower to get the road grime off him, in the meantime he will go meet his friend at the café Jeff and his Amy own. Too bad that there won’t be a regular bachelor’s party, instead it will be a wedding shower with the bride and groom.

But when he arrives he misunderstands when Amy leaves and believes that his friend is indeed having a bachelor party and propositions Clarissa, the maid of honor, thinking she is a stripper. Well things are about to get ugly, for Clarissa who already has a big chip on her shoulder, takes big offense to his comment and ends up punching him in the face. And from there things will only go downhill. Clarissa has judged him to be a Frat Boy and does the best to keep her distance from him and avoid him.

Only Dylan took quite a liking to Clarissa and can’t seem to stay away. He will do the best he can to charm her and get close to her, but for some reason everything he says to her, she takes as an insult and he will have a very hard time convincing her to give him the time of day. And with her having the entire town protecting her and making him feel unwelcome, well he will have a hard time being there until the day of the wedding.

Clarissa and Dylan have more in common than she believes, but unless she opens up enough to get to know him she may end up loosing her chance at love. Dylan also has his own things to learn during his vacation in Marfa, and he will learn what is truly important in life with a little help from Clarissa.

This story is a little slow going, but the interaction and arguments between Clarissa and Dylan will surely keep you entertained. To me the only downside was that Clarissa was treated as an injured child by everyone in town, which did not help her grow up. Yes she had a tough and painful childhood that she ran away from. But she did not give others the benefit of the doubt, like with Dylan she judged him because of his success and looked down at him because of it. And if people didn’t completely agree with her she would take offence. I liked that Dylan would not give up easily and was man enough to accept when he made a mistake and would ask for forgiveness. Even if the person offended (Clarissa) did not easily forgive. Both Dylan and Clarissa have some hidden depths that will be interesting to uncover as you read.

For a fun and sweet romance read, don’t miss A Wedding at the Blue Moon Café by Cate Masters.
