REVIEW: Amish Refuge by Debby Giusti

Amish Refuge by Debby Giusti certainly lives up to the “suspense” genre, as it kept me up a good part of the night reading! I could not and did not want to put it down! Already I am curious about the next book in the series.

From the very beginning, Miriam captures the readers’ sympathy, as she is running from an evil, corrupt policeman and his partner, both of whom killed her mother in front of Miriam and kidnapped her sister Sara. Miriam barely escapes the evil officer nicknamed Serpent (due to a serpent tattoo around his neck), and runs through the Georgia countryside at night looking for shelter and safety. How sad and wrong that the very people who should be protecting her were out to harm her and her family.

Miriam finds an Amish farmhouse and there, receives shelter and care with widowed farmer Abram and his sister. Abram instantly feels protective of Miriam and promises to allow her to hide until he can speak with his uncle, the local sheriff. He assures Miriam that his uncle is honest and will go after the crooked officers. Miriam hides “undercover” in Amish clothes to make it more difficult for Serpent to find her. However, many times throughout Amish Refuge, Serpent finds her and threatens her and Abram. Miriam is desperate to try to reach her other sister who lives in Georgia, and seek her assistance in finding Sara. And all throughout, Abram and Miriam are fighting to deny growing feelings for each other.

What do fellow readers think will happen? Will Miriam elude Serpent and find her abducted sister as well as her older sister? Will Serpent end up capturing Miriam again? Will Abram and Miriam admit their feelings for each other? To find out these answers, I highly recommend Amish Refuge.

Book Info:

Publication: May 9, 2017 | Love Inspired Suspense | Amish Protectors #1

Miriam Miller barely escapes the ruthless attacker that killed her mother and kidnapped her sister. Running deeper into the woods, she’s running out of hope…until she falls into the arms of an unlikely bodyguard–a peaceful Amish farmer. Something about Abram Zook inspires her trust, but even in bucolic Willkommen, Georgia, Miriam faces danger. Both from the men pursuing her and from her growing feelings for the caring–though guarded–widower who protects her. Because if she falls for Abram she’ll have to embrace his Amish faith as her own–or lose him. With each minute, her abductor creeps closer, pushing Miriam to an inevitable choice: stay and risk her heart…or leave and risk her life.
