Best Worst Mistake (Brightwater #3) by Lia Riley is the first book that I have read in Bestworstmistakethis series and I did not once feel lost. This book reads as a stand alone without leaving the reader lost. I have to say, that I enjoyed this book so much, I had to go and get the first two books in the series. This is the story of Wilder and Quinn.

Wilder Kane is a smoke jumper who was injured while jumping into a wildfire. After his injuries and being discharged he returns to his home town, locks himself away in a cabin and hides away from life. Then one stormy night his life takes a strange and unexpected turn when he helps a man stranded in the snow and visibly disoriented, what he doesn’t expect is his beautiful and broken daughter to show up on his door step.

Quinn Higsby has had a lifetime of disappointment, her mother never thought that she was good enough, her father is suffering with early onset alzheimer’s, and she lost her job after her former boss made a move on her and his wife made it to out to be her fault. Returning home to take care of her father and make a decision to find out if she is genetically pre-disposed to the disease that is taking her loving father away from her, Quinn never expected to find a kindred spirit in Wilder.

As Quinn and Wilder begin a journey together to try and heal each others wounds, an arsonist might just destroy them before and their future.

What I loved about Quinn and Wilder is that they both have scares, they both have secrets that neither have shared. But they are able to be open, honest and solid for each other. The way that Wilder promises to stand by Quinn no matter what the outcome of her test results, the way that Quinn sees the real Wilder under all of the gruff, tough exterior, they are truly each others rock in more ways than one.

I really enjoyed this story about wounded hearts getting a HEA, I loved it so much I ran out to get the first 2 books in this series. I would recommend this story to anyone that truly believes that love can conquer any obstacle.

Sometimes the worst mistakes turn out to be the best…

Smoke jumper Wilder Kane once reveled in the rush from putting out dangerous wildfires. But after a tragic accident, he’s cut himself off from the world, refusing to leave his isolated cabin. When a headstrong beauty bursts in, Wilder finds himself craving the fire she ignites in him, but letting anyone near his darkness would be a mistake.

After her Hollywood life went up in smoke, Quinn Higsby decided to leave Tinseltown behind and return to Brightwater to care for her ailing father. She spends her days in a small bookstore, until her peaceful existence is up-ended by a fascinating but damaged man. Quinn is determined not to be scared off by Wilder, not once she’s experienced the heat of his passions.

But when an arsonist targets the community and Wilder is accused, he must confront the ghosts of his past. Will his desire for Quinn burn him up or will he be able to tame the wildness inside and rekindle a hope for their future?
