REVIEW: Carrying the Single Dad’s Baby by Kate Hardy

In Carrying the Single Dad’s Baby by Kate Hardy, being new to the ward isn’t easy for Beatrice Lindford, especially when she thinks she’s already off to a bad start with another doctor. Yet, there’s something about single dad Daniel Capaldi that Beatrice can’t seem to resist. However, both have been hurt before. Are the pair willing to open their hearts a second time or will they walk away from their shot at happy ever after?

“I’m sorry. That wasn’t fair of me,” he said. “I’m not in a position to date anyone. I have Iain to think of.”
“I know. And I’m not looking to date anyone. I’m concentrating on my career.”

This was such a fascinating read right from the beginning because the hero and heroine don’t get off to the best start and I loved that the heroine wasn’t willing to be deterred in knowing what his problem is with her. Will she discover the truth? Will Beatrice be able to win Daniel over? However, it was from the moment where the hero and heroine begin to get to know each other where this story really takes off, as the hero is determined to keep his distance because he’s concentrating on raising his son as a single parent while the heroine is determined to concentrate on her career and doesn’t have time for a man.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, as the hero and heroine have both been hurt by their past relationships and it’s hard to be able to let someone else in, especially since the hero has a son and doesn’t want to see him hurt if things don’t work out between him and someone he gets involved with. Furthermore, I really liked both the main characters as well as the secondary ones, especially the hero’s mom. She’s determined to do right by her son after failing him for years and I liked how determined she is to push him to give happy ever after another chance. Really, nothing that happened with his ex was his fault. Yet, what I loved most of all about the main characters is the way they progressed throughout this story in opening up to each other and realizing that second chances are worth fighting for, especially once these two begin to realize that it isn’t easy to stay away from each other. Then again, it’s a good thing the hero’s son likes Beatrice so much.

“I didn’t say the order had changed, just the timescale,” he pointed out.
Her eyes went wide. “So are you saying…?”
“I’m saying you’re right, we haven’t known each other for very long — but we’ve known each other for long enough for me to know that I love you,” he said.

Overall, Ms. Hardy has delivered a really good read in this story where the hero and heroine’s progression was fabulous and had me wanting to know more about them, especially from the moment when wrong assumptions are made; the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance was heart-warming and goes a long way to helping these two heal from their pasts; and the ending had me loving the hero even more than I already did. His words are delightful and show the heroine that they’re perfect together and they shouldn’t let anything stop them from being together. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely because of what the hero does for the heroine. I would recommend Carrying the Single Dad’s Baby by Kate Hardy, if you enjoy second chance romances or books by authors Robin Gianna, Charlotte Hawkes, Ann McIntosh and Alison Roberts.
