REVIEW: Christmas in Ghost Gum Springs by Nicole Flockton

In Christmas in Ghost Gum Springs by Nicole Flockton , when the car Diana Jenkins is driving breaks down while she’s holidaying in Australia, she’s lucky that Connor Shetland comes to her rescue. However, she never imagined her knight in shining armor would love Christmas so much or be taking her to a small outback town; a place she’d rather not wind up in until her car is fixed. Will Connor be able to find a way to show Diana that Christmas and small towns aren’t all that bad or will she hightail it out of town the moment she can?

=”Great, just fantastic. What the hell was I thinking to come to the ass end of the world for a vacation.” She muttered her annoyance, but loud enough for him to hear her.
“Seeking adventure?” he asked and was rewarded with another death glare. He laughed and cocked his head towards his car. “Come on, let’s get you some place out of the sun where you can get a drink and cool off.”
“Second sensible thing you’ve said since you turned up here,” she commented as she strode to his car.=

Christmas stories are always wonderful to read and I’ve got to say that Ms. Flockton has delivered a fun, charming, quick read in this book where the heroine comes off as though small towns are beneath her, but she eventually won me over; the hero was fantastic with his love of Christmas and his determination to convince the heroine that Ghost Gum Springs is a wonderful place to be for the festive season; and the dialogue was engaging due to the main characters back stories, as the hero struggles with the guilt of what happened on his last case as a lawyer and the heroine struggles to deal with it being Christmas since she’s never celebrated the holiday like it should be celebrated. However, there was also some really interesting banter between the main characters that had me enjoying their growing relationship. Really, Connor isn’t about to be deterred from his plans to show the heroine that Ghost Gum Springs is a great small town and unlike anything she’s used to. Will the hero be able to win the heroine over?

With the main characters, I wasn’t all that fussed on the heroine in the beginning. She’s a bit rude to Connor. It’s not his fault she doesn’t like small towns or wants nothing to do with Christmas. However, she does win me over in the end due to the decisions she makes. How could she not love Ghost Gum Springs? The people are friendly, the town is interesting and the man she’s fallen in love with is there. While the hero, he’s confident, charming, hard-working, kind, caring and I loved his determination to win over the heroine because she needs someone like Connor in her life to show her that everyone deserves love.

”We’re asking a lot of questions and not getting any answers, aren’t we?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, I’ll start. I kissed you because I wanted to. I didn’t expect to see you again.” He reached out and tapped her nose. “I had to see for myself you were real and not a Christmas dream.”

Overall, Ms. Flockton has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between these two was strong from the moment they meet, even if the pair don’t get off to the best of starts because of how the heroine treats the hero with just expecting him to adhere to what she wants; and the ending had me loving the decision the heroine makes to be with the hero. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as the heroine is where she’s supposed to be. I would recommend Christmas in Ghost Gum Springs by Nicole Flockton, if you enjoy Christmas themed stories, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Abigail Owen, Amy Andrews, Annie Seaton and Victoria Purman.

She’s a long way from home, and definitely not in the Christmas spirit…

Diana Jenkins’ dream vacation has turned into a nightmare. First, her car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, Australia. Then she’s rescued by a tall, blonde Aussie who won’t take her back to Sydney, only to the blink–and–you’ll–miss–it town of Ghost Gum Springs. Finally, the rental car company won’t be able to deliver her a new car until after the holidays. So now she’s hot, jet–lagged, and stuck in a small town just like the one she’s trying to escape. Australian small towns won’t be any different from Montana small towns, and Diana wants out.

A lover of all things Christmas, Connor Shetland is determined to bring the Christmas spirit to the small town of Ghost Gum Springs. Stepping away from his law career to run the local pub for three months is the best decision he’s ever made, and now he’s relaxed, cheerful, and ready to take on even the grinchiest of Scrooges. He just didn’t expect Scrooge to be quite so attractive.

With Diana’s mistrust of small town life and her plans thrown awry, Connor has his work cut out for him. But Christmas miracles never come easy, but they come to those who need them the most.
