Come On Closer by Kendra Leigh Castle: Larkin brings joy and happiness to Come-on-Closerothers through her delicious baked goods. She loves all things pink, glittery, and unicorns. Being newer to Harvest Cove, she’s been warned off of Shane by her well-meaning friends. Larkin has made enough bad dating decisions, which means that Shane will have to stay in the friend zone despite the fact she can’t stop thinking about him.

Shane grew up in Harvest Cove as the only son of a prominent family. He has a great group of friends, a job that he hates, and a reputation he can’t shake. He comes off as being easy going, but he very much feels the weight of familial expectations. Shane would love to date Larkin, but she’s hesitant and doesn’t want to lose their friendship.

“Look, Larkin, if this is still about Saturday, I wasn’t trying to make you feel-”
“Shane, you don’t need to feel weird about going out with somebody else. I told you I’m not-”
“Wait, what?” He stopped midsentence, and Larkin’s eyes widened. Had she just said that? She’d just said that. Awesome.

Larkin brings out another side of Shane and she’s irresistibly drawn to the sexy, charming lawyer. While they had very different upbringings, they come to realize that they have more in common they either would have expected as they get to know each other better. Shane can be sweet, thoughtful, and very persistent.

“I guess I wasn’t the only one who had a rough day.”
She shook her head. “I bake when I have feelings I need to work through.”
“I can’t even see your counter. Did you work through them yet?”
“No.”

Come on Closer is a sweet and sexy opposites attract, small town romance. Kendra Leigh Castle makes great use of banter and dialogue to strengthen relationships. Ms. Castle provides engaging secondary characters and great friendships. Come on Closer can be read as a standalone. Fans of Kimberly Lang and Jill Shalvis will enjoy Come on Closer.

It sounds like it’s going to be a sweet and funny romance. I do love romances set in small towns.

I read the first book in this series and found it boring. The story was good just a little boring.

Kendra Leigh Castle does write some pretty good small town, contemporary romances.
