In Dirty Rich Obsession (Dirty Rich #3) by Lisa Renee Jones, Lawyer Reid Maxwell is up against what might prove to be his biggest challenge yet: overseeing the hostile takeover of West Enterprises. And it’s not just because of the bad blood between the West and Maxwell families. The real issue for Reid lies with Carrie West. A beautiful woman with an even more incredibly beautiful mind and soul. Unfortunately, she sees him as enemy #1. Not that he blames her, given his role in her company’s demise. Reid just wasn’t expecting to feel so protective and insanely attracted to Carrie. He doesn’t do complicated relationships. And there’s no way something between the two of them could be anything but complicated. Although as Reid decides to assist Carrie in regaining control of the business, their lives become intricately entwined to the point where he can’t imagine ever giving her up.

“You’ve mistaken me for someone who deserves you,” I say. “I don’t, but it doesn’t matter. I’m not letting you go. That’s the kind of asshole I am.”

One look at Reid Maxwell and attorney Carrie West is both attracted to him and repelled by him in equal measures. She has no idea how she can find the man who is trying to destroy her father and their family business irresistible, but she has to admit it’s true. It makes it a little easier to stay angry at Reid, though, when he barks orders at Carrie and acts the part of the egotistical CEO. Then somehow he always manages to turn it around and sweep her off her feet with the crazy chemistry between them. Her focus needs to be on saving her company and becoming the new CEO. Something Reid is supposedly going to ensure happens if she can meet the stockholders’ greedy expectations. But can Carrie really trust him when it’s clear there are things he’s still not telling her?

“Yes. I was pissed. But–I’m sorry.”
I blanch and rotate to face him. “Did you just apologize? And, with a bonus of you being naked while doing it?”

A scorching romance, an antagonistic working relationship, and oodles of family issues made Dirty Rich Obsession an utter delight. Lisa Renee Jones definitely upped the hotness factor–thankfully without scrimping on the level of complexity in the plot.

“How did you do this to me?”
“How did I do what?”
“Become the one obsession I can’t beat.”

What a smart and oh-so sexy book! Now I’ll admit right off the bat that this might not work for readers who don’t like an enemies-to-lovers story that swings back and forth from serious animosity to intense passion at the drop of a hat. Lisa Renee Jones made it work really well for me, however, because there was such substance behind the reason Carrie was angry with Reid. It wasn’t just that they took one look at each other and their hackles went up. It was because their fathers and respective family businesses were tangled up and twisted around each other that things were so complicated between them,

I really liked how Reid was portrayed. He could seem like such a cold, almost indifferent, jerk while on the job that I kind of wanted to dislike him at first. But it was quickly apparent that there was a lot more depth to Reid. And reasons why he acted the way he did, as well as why he was heading the hostile takeover of West Enterprises. I got such a kick out of Carrie holding her own with alpha-hole Reid. She was a resourceful, highly intelligent woman who absolutely knew her own mind. It was her heart that got her in some trouble as she fell for her so-called enemy. But Reid fell right along with Carrie. And it was incredibly fun watching the two duke it out verbally–which made for some extremely passionate (and even some borderline hate-filled) love scenes. *fans face*

Readers will need a cold drink or a fan to make it through Dirty Rich Obsession in one piece. Lisa Renee Jones outdid herself with this captivating standalone romance. But considering the intriguing cast here, I know I’ll be going back and starting the series from the beginning very soon.

Yay! I so agree, Pennie! It could’ve been another hundred pages and I still would’ve grumbled when it ended. LOL 😉 But from what I understand there will be a novella for Reid & Carrie In January 2019. Squee!
