Every-Beat-of-my-HeartIn Every Beat of My Heart by Kianna Alexander, two people are brought back together with the help of a piano.

Lina-Smith Todd has a hard time trusting men. So much that she let a good man go because of her insecurities. Lina has a right to feelings though. Her former husband did a number on her while cheating constantly and telling her she was too dumb not to notice. Anyone who’s been there knows this is something you can let go of right away, so I’m not mad at her for her trust issues. I sympathize with Lina and was rooting for her to get her happily ever after.

When Rashad MacRae notices Lina at the auction house, he knows he needs her to give him a second chance. They were hot together and he’s never lost his heart to a woman until Lina came along. The only way he can get back into Lina’s heart is to ease some of her anxieties and letting her know there will never be another woman for him. That might be easier said than done since Rashad is a musician and has a personality he must exhibit at his shows, which includes smiling at all the ladies.

“He’d always been a flirt, always enjoyed the chase when it came to women. But when it came to her, things were different.”

Throughout this relationship, Lina and Rashad both have their eyes set on a specific piano. It’s a priceless piano that they both desperately want. Lina wants to gift to her mother and Rashad wants it for himself, because it means something to him. But when one of them wins the piano over the other, secrets are exposed and the trust they have established is broken.

Every Beat of My Heart is a lighthearted story full of heat. The characters were enjoyable and their passion for each other is clear. I only wish there was a little more conflict to the story. All the conflict was based on trust and I just needed a little more depth to the storyline. Overall, this was a pleasant read and I would certainly read from this author again. If you enjoy second chance romances, this might be the book for you!

The rhythm of love

Lina Smith-Todd is a winning bid away from owning a piece of musical history. The auction heats up when she discovers that her chief competition for a piano owned by Thelonious Monk is the man who once shared her bed. But the priceless baby grand isn’t all that the seductive, supremely confident musician intends to possess. Rashad MacRae wants a second chance to be with Lina.

Rashad’s passion for music was inspired by the legendary Monk. But if walking away with the prize means losing his shot at a future with Lina, he’s ready to concede defeat. To entice her back into his arms, Rashad has to find a way to regain the self-sufficient attorney’s trust. And now a family revelation could cost him everything. Can doubt be swept away by the promise of an everlasting love song they both know by heart?
