REVIEW: Fall From India Place by Samantha Young

In Fall From India Place by Samantha Young, Hannah lost her teenage heart to Marco when he rescued her from some bullies. What starts out as friendship soon becomes much more, but after a passionate night when Hannah declares her love for Marco, he disappears without a word and she hasn’t heard from him since. A lot has happened in that 12time…

Marco never thought he would be good enough for Hannah. When he took off back to America, it seemed like it was for the best. An unexpected reunion with Hannah will bring a flood of feelings, good and bad, old and new. The connection and the chemistry is still there, even if neither of them wants it to be. They can’t help but be together…but will it be long term or a short lived fling?

Both of them have secrets since the last time they saw each other, secrets that have shaped them into who they are today. Hannah is holding onto anger and hurt, blaming Marco for things he not only didn’t know about, but that he didn’t have any control over. She doesn’t let many people in, and even with lots of family and friends, she feels like she should suffer everything alone. Marco’s secrets have had a much more positive impact on the young man he’s grown up into to…but they are secrets he’s not ready to share with Hannah. Not until he knows she won’t give up on him.

Secrets never stay secret though, and when they come to light will they push Hannah and Marco closer or drive them apart forever this time? Can Hannah give Marco another chance or is she going to make him pay forever?

Both of the main characters took a bit for me to get to know and like. I never really did feel a connection to Hannah… She’s been through a terrible thing, but she really has not moved on. I like to think that as she matures so will her reactions. She was a mass of contradictions for Marco, and as she starts to lean on him a bit more (and realize it’s ok to lean on people sometimes!), I had more hope for their relationship. Marco was much easier to like, especially once Samantha delved deeper into his background. Samantha really made me feel for Marco, and admire who he has become. He has his reasons for what he did, and agree or not, they were solid reasons for him. He could have contacted Hannah sooner, but then again she could have contacted him too(outside of going to the family restaurant once to look for him). I don’t think any blame can be placed there…it’s just the way of youth and first loves.

Far From India Place is a well paced, New Adult romance. I really liked the easy flow of Samantha’s writing and the connections of the characters. I loved how she incorporated so many characters so easily into the story line. I have only read one of her other books, and there was a little confusion over who was who sometimes, but otherwise I think Fall From India Place can be read on it’s own.

If you enjoy young/new adult romance with a lot of angst, you’ll enjoy Fall From India Place.

I read the first book in the series, Down London Road, and it was really good! I have the rest on my TBR stack. I had heard mixed reviews about this one, namely what you said, about not being able to connect with Hannah.

Never read this series; good to know about the lack of connection with the heroine
