Forgetting August by J.L. Berg: Engaged and moving on, the last thing Everly wants to hear is that forgetting-august-jl-bergher ex, August, has woken up from his coma. His coma was a life saver for her, bringing her out from his greed and obsession over her. But when she visits him in the hospital, taking her closure, she discovers August has no memory of his life.

August remembers nothing. He only knows what he feels for this woman, Everly, except she wants nothing to do with him.

But no matter the pain he caused her, Everly can’t completely let go. And she can’t help but want to help August find his memories again.

“Do you every think of me — when I’m not around?” she asked softly…

Stepping in closer, so she could feel the breath of my words as they fell from my mouth, I whispered, “Every second, Everly. Every damn second.”

I’m not at all a fan of love triangles, especially with Everly so deeply in a relationship with the other guy, Ryan. It always comes across angsty, and unfair, and sad to me. If you love love triangles, however, I would definitely give Forgetting August a shot.

A bit cliché with the amnesia, but interesting given their past. It was not a good relationship. August was truly awful to her by the end before the coma. But this new August, I can root for…as long as I’m shown he won’t revert back to what he was.

I liked how the story was told, with some memories of the past, but not so it was overwhelming. I also love Ryan and I want him to be happy with someone, just not Everly. I love that Everly has gone on this journey and has claimed ownership over herself rather than allowing a man to, and I want her new attitude to go forward with August.

The story does end on a cliff-hanger, the next in the story is Remembering Everly which is out soon and which will be reviewed. It’s an ending that definitely keeps me attached and even being annoyed by the back and forth I had to immediately jump to the next book.

She can forgive, but can she forget?

Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn’t matter that she’s moved on, that she’s about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can’t hurt her-because he’s in a coma. Except that he’s not anymore.

August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she’s the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.

Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .
