REVIEW: Her Family’s Defender by Kim Findlay

Her Family’s Defender by Kim Findlay: I always enjoy reading books by authors whose work I have not yet read, and Her Family’s Defender by Kim Findlay was no exception.

Ms. Findlay weaves a touching and enjoyable story about a Stanley Cup recipient hockey player who befriends a single mother and her two kids when they temporarily move into the penthouse condo next door to his. This seems like an unlikely recipe for friendship and romance, however, Troy is instantly attracted to Michelle and her kids, Angie and Tommy. Troy and Angie bond over Angie’s extreme passion for hockey, and in Tommy, Troy senses the need for a male role model and friend. However, Michelle is quite reluctant to allow her family to spend time with and develop a bond with Troy.

Gradually, Michelle allows some of her defenses to drop, and to slowly let Troy into their lives. Troy finds ways to help nurture Angie’s love of hockey, and to bond with Tommy over video games. Michelle does enjoy the opportunity for some regular adult conversations, and tries to hide her growing attraction to Troy.

To find out if Michelle and Troy have a chance at a long lasting future together, and to see how Angie and Tommy might feel about Troy being in their lives long term, I recommend picking up a copy of “Her Family’s Defender”. It is definitely a “story with a happy ending”.
