Hero by Samantha Young: Alexa has had a difficult few years ever since learning about the mistakes her father has Heromade. Alexa has just returned from a vacation when she meets the very man her father wronged-Caine Callaway. Caine is a wealthy and powerful businessman who can be ruthless and intimidating. They don’t get off on the best start, but Alexa feels like she knows him and she wants to help him.

Caine’s eyes glittered triumphantly at my obvious excitement. “As I said, it comes with a price.” His grin was wicked and I suddenly felt a bit breathless. “I’m a hard man to please. And I’m also a very busy man. You’ll do what I want when I want and I won’t always be nice about it. In fact, considering what your surname is, you can pretty much guarantee I won’t be nice about it.”

Caine can be rude, impatient, overbearing, arrogant, and demanding, but he can also be sweet, kind, and generous. Alexa is intelligent, determined, and organized and she’s used to living her life in the background where she’s not a priority. When they’re in the same room, there’s always tension simmering between them. I loved their banter! Caine’s demands and Alexa’s responses were highly entertaining, especially when that tension finally exploded into more.

“Are you this bossy with all your women?”
Caine grinned, a wicked full-on smile that made my heart palpitate. “No, you just bring it out in me.”
I smiled back. “You’re saying you have a thing for bossing me around?”
“Just like you have a thing for being a smart-ass.”

Caine lives by a set of rules when it comes to relationships so that no one gets hurt. He warns Alexa that he’s not a white knight and long-term isn’t for him. However, Caine shows another side when Alexa is in danger.

Hero by Samantha Young is an amazing story of two people learning to look beyond the surface and to move beyond their pasts. Samantha Young creates two strong, independent characters in Alexa and Caine who are equals and have great chemistry. Ms. Young also created a fun cast of secondary characters in Henry and Effie!!
