His Leading Lady By Maggie Dallen: Alice, having watched her father walk out and seeing her mother have one disastrous relationship after another, keeps men at arm’s length. After three dates she breaks off her relationships to shield herself from getting hurt. But when her neighbor has a medical emergency and she runs out of her apartment looking for help, she crashes in Dr. Nicholas Bale. After one night together she believes she won’t have to see the attractive doctor again, only he comes into her office looking for help for a fundraiser he’s hosting to raise money for a new children’s wing at the hospital. The fundraiser will give both the promotions they want, but will Alice open herself up to love?

Nicholas has his life planned out. At this point in his life, the schedule says he needs to get married, so he’s on a quest to find a wife with the help of his friends. Despite all the dates he’s set up on, he hasn’t found the perfect person for him.

For quite possibly the first time in his life, he’s set out to accomplish a task and was failing. Well, maybe it was too soon to call it a failure, but it certainly wasn’t coming easily. Perhaps it was time to rethink his strategy. May be should put his wife-hunt on hold, wait until the promotion was sure thing…But then that would mean delaying his plans.
And life plans waited for no man.

He seemed to be a stickler to these plans, but I liked that Alice throws him for a loop. She’s not the kind of woman he expected to fall for, and with her help, he realizes that maybe plans don’t always have to be set in stone.

Alice has a close relationship with Ena, a senior citizen living next door. They spend their time together watching classic movies. I liked their relationship. It extends past friendship to almost a grandmother-granddaughter type of relationship. All Ena wants is for Alice to trust and to open herself up to love, and she decides Nicholas is the man to do it.

She shut her eyes, and Alice let out a sigh of relief. She was ready to head home, take a shower, and forget all about the awful image of Ena on the ground. And the humiliating image of her utter loss of dignity in front of the sexy doctor.
But then Ena said, “I can ask him if he’s single if you’d like.”
Alice groaned. She should have known Ena wouldn’t give up that easily–even when she was doped up and in pain. Her friend was bound and determined to find Alice a love match, despite the fact that Alice didn’t do love.

I also liked that Nicholas, sensing how important Ena is to Alice, takes the time to get to know her, often keeping her company in the hospital.

The drama level is low in this one, so it’s perfect for readers who prefer their books without a lot of angst. The book was well-written and drew me in with its entertaining and likable characters. I recommend giving His Leady Lady a read.

Book Info:

Publication: July 11, 2017 | Lyrical Press | A Reel Romance #2

Alice is calm, cool, and aloof—except for the night she meets her new neighbor Dr. Nicholas Bale—aka Hot Doc. The chemistry between them might be through the roof but that doesn’t mean she’s going to let him into her life. Having been seen at her most vulnerable, she vows to have nothing to do with the sexy doctor. After all, Alice learned long ago that love only leads to hurt.

Nicholas is smitten at first sight with the gorgeous, mysterious redhead upstairs. But between her attempts to push him away and the even bigger wall around her heart, the dashing doctor is having a hard time getting close to the sensitive beauty. Then he glimpses the emotion in her eyes as she watches Fred and Ginger whirl across the screen and he’s determined to uncover just what it will take to dance his way in to her heart.

This sounds like a good book to read. Thanks for your review. I noticed this is a book two, have you read book one and can you read them as standalones?

I haven’t read book one, but this can be read as a standalone. Looking at the blurb for the first book, it’s about one of Alice’s friends. That couple makes only a very brief appearance in this book, so it doesn’t feel like it’s carrying over from the last one.
