His Risk by Shelley Shepard Gray: I strongly recommend ANY book written by Shelley Shepard Gray. She is an incredibly talented writer in the Amish and in the historical fiction genres. And His Risk is no exception!

In previous books of this series, readers got a glimpse of Calvin’s character on his brief visits home to visit his brother . But Calvin has always tried to keep his English life separate from his Amish brothers life for safety reasons- he doesn’t want his brother or his brother’s new wife’s safety in jeopardy.

However, Calvin is called home to Hart County this time when his brother becomes gravely ill. He happens to meet Alice, a neighbor of Mark and Waneta’s, and feels instantly drawn to and quite protective of Alice. Alice in turn finds him fascinating and kind and mysterious.

Calvin is forced to juggle his undercover work with a dangerous gang, along with helping his brother and sister in law, and with spending time with Alice- who in turn is not sure about pursuing a friendship or other relationship with Calvin. In the meantime, Alice and her close friend Irene soon become the target of threats of violence . Calvin desperately tries to keep them safe, as does an unexpected new person in Irene’s life- someone extremely surprising to the other characters.

I hesitate to say more because i do not wish to spoil the story. I cannot recommend this highly enough! Happy Reading!

Calvin Fisher left the Amish community at fourteen and never looked back. Only his brother’s illness can bring him back to Hart County. Now, as Calvin works to make amends, he meets Alice, a local nursery school teacher, and falls hard for her. But he has a secret that could threaten the happiness he’s finally found.

Alice shouldn’t like—or want—Calvin. He’s English, has a questionable past, and an even more questionable job. Still, she can’t help being intrigued. Though Calvin assures Alice that he’s worthy of her, she’s torn between surrendering to her growing feelings and steering clear of him.

When a sudden surge of criminal activity alarms the community and even targets Alice, Calvin fears that his double life has put everyone he loves at risk. As for Alice, she can’t help but wonder if the brave and honorable man she’s lost her heart to is far more dangerous than she could ever imagine.
