holdingoutforaheroHolding Out for a Hero (Men in Uniform #3) by Codi Gary: What I have come to love about each book in the Men in Uniform books by Codi Gary is that each and every book has characters that have struggles, they are human, they draw the reader into their story and each book can be read as a separate stand alone book without losing the reader. This book is all about Blake and Hannah.

Blake Kline tragically lost his wife, the love of his life to a base shooting when he was stationed in Texas. He crawled into a bottle and almost lost himself there. When he is transferred to the Alpha Dog Training program, and started to go to group therapy with the guys, he did everything in his power not to share, to stay in the back ground. Now that his buddies are all finding love, he feels alone again, and is starting to take it out on the world around him. The only bright spot in his otherwise dark world is Hannah, the pretty waitress with a sweet smile and a shy personality. He wants in the worst way to get her to talk to him, to be able to have something with her, but he is held back by feelings of guilt, that he is betraying his wife by moving on with his life.

Hannah York has liked the handsome Blake since he first stepped into the diner. Finally finding the nerve to joke with him, he is the bright spot in her day. When a situation causes Blake to step in and become a hero to save Hannah, she is thrilled, and a little scared. She knows that he has not gotten over his wife, and if they are ever going to be able to move forward together, she will have to help Blake face his past.

I love the banter between Blake and his squad mates. They are roll on the floor funny, and Milo, the little golden puppy (AKA demon spawn) had me in fits of laughter. I really loved the connection between Hannah and Blake. I loved how Hannah and Blake’s friends helped Blake to face the things that he was afraid of. That Hannah was willing to stand her ground and demand that she loved Blake but that she deserved and wanted more is a testiment to how much she truly wanted a life with Blake, wanted to have him whole and truly healed. The HEA for these two was truly amazing.

I would recommend this book and this series to anyone that loves a sweet HEA with funny characters, lovable dogs and nosy friends.

He wasn’t looking for love…

Two years after the death of his wife, Sergeant Blake Kline is still hurting. He isn’t ready to date, but whenever he stops by his local diner and sees the friendly smile of his favorite waitress, he feels a spark of true happiness again. And when her life is unexpectedly threatened, Blake discovers his feelings for her might not be as platonic as he thought.

She was holding out for the hero of her dreams…

Bookworm Hannah York has always been a hopeless romantic—preferring book boyfriends to blind dates—and she’s been day-dreaming about Blake since the moment he came into her diner. She’s convinced they’ll never be more than friends… until Blake kisses her and “weak in the knees” becomes more than just a line from her favorite romance novel. The closer Blake and Hannah get, however, the harder he fights to keep her at a distance.

But forever has a way of sneaking up on you…

When their blossoming relationship takes a complicated turn, Blake will have to face his past… or risk losing Hannah forever.
