It’s a Wonderful Wife by Janet Chapman: Cadi is delightfully quirky, creative, and has a Its-a-Wonderful-Wifeunique talent for creating the perfect home for clients. She’s lived a fairly sheltered life and can’t wait to leave her small town and travel. When her engagement ends, she decides it’s finally the right time to enjoy life and start living to please herself. Jesse can’t wait to have his new home constructed on Hundred Acre island. He’s also hoping that Maine will bring him the same good fortune as his brothers, since he’s ready to find the right woman and settle down.

“Stay long enough to rebuild both models, and I’ll double whatever Stanley pays you.”
She looked up in horror. “I can’t hang around another three months.” She took a deep breath. “You don’t understand,” she said calmly. “I have a small problem saying no to people, and if I don’t get away from everyone I care about in the next week or two, I may never leave.”

Jesse is thrilled that Cadi’s engagement fell apart, since now he can pursue her. It’s sheer good fortune for Jesse to come to her rescue so he can press his suit. Except Cadi downplays her own worth and desirability. She believes that she’s too unsophisticated for Jesse considering his wealth and status.

Cadi soon gets some very unexpected news that pushes up her timetable for her own adventure. She’s determined to be independent in the face of the concern shown by friends, neighbors, and Jesse. Cadi may lack in some life experiences, but she is very curious and quite persuasive. She also knows how to win in one of the many discussions she and Jesse have.

“Why?”
Honest to God, his niece and nephew said why less often. “Why what?”
“Why would you want to get my attention?” He felt her stiffen. “You said you’re not the kind of guy who expects something in return.”

It’s a Wonderful Wife is a small town contemporary romance about a billionaire in search of a wife. Some parts of the storyline (characters, events, history) seemed like a stretch considering their purpose in the book and that part of the story wasn’t fully resolved. Janet Chapman created a very entertaining character in Cadi. Ms. Chapman made good use of humor throughout, especially between Cadi and Jesse. Fans of RaeAnne Thayne would enjoy It’s a Wonderful Wife.
