mustlovecakeMust Love Cakes (Watkins Pond #3) by Virginia Nelson is the first book that I have read by this author, and while the book was good, and it was a quick novella read, I felt something was missing.

This is the story of three friends. Think Three Company, only 2 guys (Grady Brooks and Ben Shipman ) , 1 girl (Carolyn Bannister). They have all had feelings for each other for a long time. Never have they acted on it. Grady and Ben have shared women in the past, both know that they have feelings for Carrie, but neither a willing to tell her. Instead, they watch her date other guys, suffering in silence. Until one night, Carrie, Grady and Ben are out at a party, Carrie’s current ex is there and all over his new flavor of the week. The 3 decide to give everyone a little something to talk about. But now that the feelings are out in the open, Carrie, Grady and Ben need to come clean and decide if they want to move forward together, or call it quits.

While I thought that the book had potential, I missed that connection between the characters. It just felt a little rushed. I felt like the build up to the three of them all getting on the same page took too long considering this was a very short novella. I did enjoy that all three of them knew what was at stake, that they discussed it and worked through it together. I think that the ending of the book was good and the build up to it made it worth the wait.

When two delicious men are on the menu, skip the appetizer and go straight to dessert.

Carolyn Bannister lives the sweet life as co-owner and operator of a bakery with her two best friends. Small towns being what they are, though, she finds herself at a party one night, slinging back shots while trying to ignore the woman wrapped around her ex.

Grady Brooks and Ben Shipman have always taken care of their longtime buddy, and tonight is no different. Though they’ve shared women in the past, they never considered getting sexually involved with Carrie—at least not out loud. Why not get back at her douche of an ex by playing into the longtime rumors about the three of them being involved in a relationship?

Any initial hesitation goes up in smoke when faked kisses get all too real. Though they break apart, everything has changed. Now neither Grady nor Ben can pretend they don’t want the one woman they’ve always loved.

But in this gossip-ridden town, it’s not as if the three of them can openly date. Or…can they?
