In Quarterback Draw (Play by Play #9) by Jaci Burton, Grant is a professional football player who meets Quarterback-Drawsupermodel Katrina on a model shoot he’s doing. In a tropical paradise, the sparks between Kat and Grant fly, even as Kat does her best to ignore them and Grant. Kat has enough going on in her life, the last thing she wants or needs is a serious relationship that will only leave her open to having her heart broken.

Grant does not give up easily though. There is something about Kat that pulls him to her, and spending a few hours with her after a photo shoot will never be enough. Kat is determined not to see Grant again. She has her own life carefully structured and with two younger siblings to take care of she does not want to take any risks with any man. Grant is a hard man to say no to though, because he makes her feel things she doesn’t expect to feel. Back in the US, they spend more time together, getting to know each other and each others families. The more they are together the hotter the chemistry and the more both of them feel – but neither of them really opens up about their growing feelings. Kat feels overwhelmed by Grant, and wants to end things before she finds herself and her siblings in too deep. Has Grant pushed too far and too fast into Kat’s life, before she has a chance to see how good things could be between them on a more permanent basis?

Quarterback Draw is a pretty smooth, sweet and very sexy read. Once the steam starts with Grant and Kat it just heats up more and more. Grant is like a bit of a bulldozer in Kat’s life though…it felt like he just barged right in and never took the time to listen to her…maybe because he was afraid of what she’d say? He just knew he wanted to know her much better and was happy to be with her. I liked how accepting he was of Kat’s sister and brother, and his interactions with them were perfect. Kat treasures her independence. She is strong, protective and they way she’s raised her brother and sister since she was 18 was admirable. It is difficult for her to be flexible, and watching her struggle with this made her real. I could relate to a lot of the feelings she had in Quarterback Draw. She is a believable character with issues in her past that have left her scared to be involved with someone lest she get hurt…but it’s not just about her, it’s about her siblings too. She is always thinking of them and what’s best for them. The only thing that bothered me about her was how determined she was not to be involved with Grant (or anyone) because she assumes nothing will last. This was a frustrating characteristic for me! Together Grant and Kat are great main characters with a lot of strong traits.

I loved the family dynamics in Quarterback Draw, from Kat’s sister and brother to Grant’s big family. They are all just great people and it was so nice to feel a part of this family while I was reading Quarterback Draw. Grant’s family reminds Kat what she’s missing, but they also give her what she’s missing…and will continue to if she will let them.

I would consider Quarterback Draw to be an easy stand alone even if it is part of the Play by Play series. I have read some but not all of these books. I’d recommend Quarterback Draw to romance readers who like the sports aspect and don’t mind the pages burning up!

Playing For Keeps

Grant Cassidy knows how to be a football star—flash that dazzling smile, throw the winning pass, get the girl. But while the hot quarterback loves the game and the lifestyle, no woman has come close to catching his heart. Then he matches wits with a smart, gorgeous model, and Grant finds himself wanting more than a fling.

Supermodel Katrina Koslova might live in a world of glitz and camera flashes, but she works hard to provide for the family that relies on her. She doesn’t have time for fun—much less a boyfriend—but Grant seems determined to be the exception to Katrina’s rule.

Their explosive chemistry is undeniable, but Katrina’s afraid to let go and rely on anyone but herself. Grant intends to ease her fears and prove he’s a man of style and substance

Thanks for the review, Michele. I always like stories where an older sibling is raising their younger ones since it gives them so much depth.
