In Recovery by JC Harroway, after being hounded relentlessly by the Recoverypress due to a family scandal, all Dr. Sophia King has wanted since the dust settled – so to speak — is keep herself out of the spotlight. However, when she treats movie star Nathan Banks and a photo is captured, she finds herself once again dodging reporters while needing to protect her vulnerable family. Except to protect her loved ones means she’ll need to put her faith in Nathan to help her.

”We don’t need you to fix us with some flashy publicity stunt. I’ll take care of my family. I’ve been doing it since I was fourteen.”
The smile he bestowed on me was enigmatic, but with just enough heat to make my toes curl. “I’m not trying to fix you, Sophia. Quite the opposite, in fact.”

This is the first book I’ve read by JC Harroway, and I’ve got to say that it won’t be my last. Right from the beginning, this book was entertaining, fast-paced and gripped my attention completely once the hero and heroine met. Sophia and Nathan are complete opposites. After the scandal that turned her life and those of her family upside down, Sophia has done her best to keep her private life exactly that – private. However, Nathan’s career does not allow for her to keep her anonymity when she treats him in her job as a doctor.

The dialogue was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the heroine. She and her family have been through so much having already been rocked by a scandal, and dealing with the paparazzi all over again when they believe she’s intimately linked to Nathan is an absolute nightmare. The question is – how far will she go to protect those she loves? However, there were some light-hearted moments between the hero and heroine as well as the heroine and her best friend that had me laughing or smiling. Sophia’s best friend, Jess, is determined to see Sophia happy for once in her life and make certain that the heroine doesn’t keep avoiding good people like Nathan; good people determined to do what’s right instead of the complete opposite in betraying her.

I really liked both the main characters, as well as the secondary characters, except for Nathan’s co-star. She was a real drama queen; all self-absorbed and believing that Sophia will never be enough for Nathan. Sophia is strong, brave and I liked how protective she was of her family. That she would do anything to make things easier for her, even if it meant agreeing to a fake relationship with Nathan. Facing or dodging the media isn’t easy for her, yet she does the best she can with the hero at her side. While Nathan, he’s a good guy and I liked that he would do anything to protect Sophia. Because just as she’s good for him, it seems he’s good for her. Also, I liked how kind and considerate he was towards the heroine’s quandary; making certain that she could still achieve her dreams before the paparazzi ruined things completely for her.

She changed direction. “Did you get to examine his magnificent bod?” She tossed her apple core into the bin.
“Jess. No clothes were removed during the examination of his injury.”
“Tut, tut. You’re a doctor. You should know that all injuries are best treated with a thorough examination of the chest and abdomen. It’s called the six-pack sign. Didn’t they teach you anything in med school?”

Nicely detailed, hot sex scenes heat up this story at the right moments. Sophia needs time to deal with the harassment of the media, and her jealousy issues when it comes to Nathan and other women because he’s been rated as one of the world’s sexiest men. Nathan proves to Sophia that she can trust him through his actions and words. Yet, it wasn’t easy for Sophia to overcome the effect Nathan has on women. How could she possibly be any different than the women he usually dates?

Overall, this was a really good book, which has me looking forward to the next story in the series featuring Sophia’s best friend, Jess, as the heroine. The way this story ended was wonderful, and had me cheering for the heroine’s bravery in winning Nathan back. Because if she was going to be in the hero’s life than she needed to get used to the media possibly following her every move. I would recommend Recovery by JC Harroway, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope.
