In Rock Addiction (Rock Kiss #1) by Nalini Singh, Zachary Fox is used to having a bevy of beautiful women available to him, being that he’s the lead singer in one of the biggest rock bands on the planet, Schoolboy Choir. But when he spots Molly Webster at an industry party in New Zealand, he knows she’s it for him. Fox somehow convinces her to have a one night fling with him, and what a RAdicnight it is. When he then proposes to turn it into a one month fling while he’s vacationing there before his next tour, he has to turn on the charm to convince Molly to give it a try. Fox has never felt such a connection with anyone in his life, nor has he felt like he could be so open and honest before. He knows he doesn’t want Molly to ever leave his side, but will she be able to deal with his crazy lifestyle in the public eye?

‘Baby, I never had any intention of letting you go at the end of the month.” Fox’s words shattered everything Molly thought she knew. “You’re like the perfect song and I knew that the first night we spent together.”

Librarian Molly Webster has followed a set of her own self-imposed strict rules since her parent’s public scandal in her teen years. She went through hell with only her best friend Charlotte for support during that terrible time. So now Molly lives what she thinks is a full, if boring, life until she meets Fox. Then every red flag in her mind starts going off while her body gives her other signs. Surely giving in to one night of pleasure with the sexy rocker won’t hurt anything, right? But Molly becomes emotionally attached to Fox, going against everything she’s worked so hard for. She can’t imagine how she will deal once he leaves on tour at the end of the month, yet is terrified of being in the spotlight again. Will her head win the argument, or will her heart take over and give her bad boy the chance to prove he’ll keep her safe?

“I might be on the fence about this life,” she whispered for his ears only, “but I’m not and will never be on the fence about you.” He was it for her. Forever. “I will fight for you.”

Rock Addiction is the steamy beginning of a new contemporary romance series by Nalini Singh. We get to watch as a sexy rock god and a good girl librarian beat the odds, and their troubled pasts, to form a cohesive relationship full of tenderness and raw emotion.

Ms. Singh is one of my go-to paranormal romance authors and I am so happy that what I enjoy about her writing style works well for this genre also. I think she uses an incredible amount of pertinent detail in each scene to allow the reader to feel a part of the story and really get inside the character’s head. And the characters themselves are usually very complex and multifaceted, which was certainly true with Fox and Molly. They both had been dealt some serious emotional blows during their childhood which affected them as adults. But it also was something that they shared in common, so it created a very intense connection that only grew stronger over time. I appreciated that Molly and Fox were more intent on helping each other move forward, together, in their lives instead of being filled with angst over their pasts, making this a truly adult story, to me.

I loved that Fox was both a typical rocker with a bit of an ego and a very, very dirty mouth (yowza!), but he was a sweetheart to Molly and very understanding of her issues with his lifestyle. His in-your-face honesty was refreshing, and I thought it was romantic that Fox knew right away that he couldn’t have a one night, or even one month, fling with Molly. It was forever in his eyes and he made sure to let her make up her own mind. Molly was a smart, very strong character as well, who I could sympathize with easily enough. She made sure she stayed on the straight and narrow her whole life thanks to her parent’s issues and agonized over whether she should let herself give in to her addiction: Fox. I’m glad she did, because the result was a powerful love match with some seriously hot love scenes!

If you enjoy romances with bad boy rockers who actually have big hearts instead of big egos, I think you’ll really enjoy Fox, Molly, and the rest of the sexy guys in the band. Be on the lookout for drummer David’s story up next in Rock Courtship.

I was surprised to see this author had a new contemporary series, but it sounds very good. Thanks for the review, Michele.
