Sand-and-SinSand and Sin by Dani Jace is a very quick read about a Navy SEAL and a bartender.
Jax gets wounded from a bullet and has to heal before he can get back to his team. He decides it’s the perfect time to visit his buddy TJ, but TJ gets called away leaving Jax to fend for himself. Jax heads to Trident, where he meets a beautiful bartender who he is immediately attracted to.

Peri is the owner of Trident and would love to get down and dirty with Jax, but she doesn’t mix business with pleasure. Peri also has responsibilities that keep her from letting loose. She has a teenage daughter to think about and an ex-husband who is a pain in the ass. Even though she should resist Jax, there is something about him that calls to her.

Jax never intends to settle down. His career doesn’t make time for relationships and he knows this thing with Peri can’t go anywhere, but his emotions get the best of him.

“Usually, women were like a mission: get in and get out in one piece. Peri messed up his equilibrium,”

As soon as Jax and Peri get their hearts involved, Jax gets called back to work and leaves her. Both of them are feeling the loss, but can they find their way to each other?

For a quick read, there is a lot of sex scenes. I would have preferred less and more substance with the characters. I didn’t really feel the love between Peri and Jax, as I should have. I felt plenty of lust, but not necessarily love. It was more like they were both in the right place and the right time and no one else was around. I did the love the small amount of suspense thrown in towards the end, but I didn’t really fall in love with either character or this story. Overall, three stars!

The heart has a mission of its own…

Wounded in more ways than one, Navy SEAL Jax Taylor only understands short-term commitments. And when he walks into the Trident Bar in Virginia Beach, beautiful bartender Peri Halstead sizes him up right away. But that doesn’t stop her from teasing him with her sultry sarcasm, or taking him home—after she finds him passed out cold in the parking lot…

Soon enough, Jax is recovering at Peri’s in return for doing some handyman work, and the sexy sparks are flying—in almost every room in the house. Peri tells herself she deserves some fun, especially now that she’s a single mom with a cheating ex to deal with. But when it’s time for her and Jax to go their separate ways, the miles between them—and the danger that’s about to touch both their lives—has them wondering if Jax can learn to love more than the mission…

Thanks for commenting. Well developed characters are a must for me, to really lose myself in the story.
