Second Chance Amish Bride by Marta Perry: Jessie is a young Amish woman who visits the town of Lost Creek to help care for her late cousin’s young children while their father, Caleb, recovers from a broken leg. Jessie feels a huge sense of responsibility toward her cousin’s children, as Jessie helped raise her cousin, Alice.

Unfortunately, because Alice felt she could not handle the responsibilities of marriage and motherhood, Alice had long ago fled the Amish community including Caleb and their children. This caused deep resentment and hurt in Caleb’s heart, making it nearly impossible to trust Jessie or to want her on his farm helping his children. Jessie, however, is not easily deterred and is determined to help bring healing to his and his children’s hearts. She has the support of his uncle, his brother, and nearby friends of Caleb’s who show interest in being her friend.

This is a heartwarming story that focuses on forgiveness and second chances. While the Amish are known for their emphasis on forgiveness, they like us, are human, and forgiveness is not always easy or simple. They work extremely hard at it as do we who are not Amish. I do highly recommend this touching novel about family, love and second chances.

Caring for her late cousin’s young kinder is Jessie Miller’s duty–even if it means seeing their father again. Years ago, she thought Caleb King might be her husband–until he met her cousin and Jessie’s dream was cut short. Laid up with a broken leg and a demanding dairy farm, Caleb needs her. But Caleb wants no woman around…and no reminder of the wife who abandoned her family before her death. Especially since he fears Jessie will throw a wrench in his plan to remain a single dad. She’s gentle and kind, and if Caleb isn’t careful, she may be just what his little Amish family needs.
