In Seeking Her (Losing It #3.5) by Cora Carmack, Jackson Hunt is a former Marine who has been given the task of following around a beautiful young woman on her way through Europe. Kelsey Summer’s father wants to keep tabs on her and ensure she doesn’t get too out of control. So it’s up to Hunt to protect her without giving himself away, reporting back to her father as needed.

‘Temptation. If this mission had a code name, that would be it.’

Seeking-Her

Hunt finds himself attracted to Kelsey and has a difficult time separating his feelings from the job he has to perform as he follows her from country to country. The more he learns about Kelsey, the more he wants to help her and figure out what she’s running from. But he may be the one who needs to be careful or he just may become involved in a situation that could turn volatile very quickly.

‘No matter what I wanted, I was the last person in the world she should trust.’

Seeking Her is a novella that gives us Jackson Hunt’s viewpoint on the events that happened in Finding It (which was book three in the Losing It series). I would definitely suggest reading Finding It first before this one, otherwise it most likely will not make sense.

I was happy to finally get Hunt’s take on Kelsey and her wild time trekking across Europe. It didn’t really occur to me until reading this how difficult it must have been for him to follow her into clubs and bars, given his past issues. Hunt showed pretty good control both in keeping his demons at bay and in fighting his attraction to Kelsey. Well, for the most part. 😉

Hunt turned out to be just as sarcastic and cynical as I figured he would be, which I really enjoyed. The fact that he jokingly thought of himself as the Sorority Girl Stalker while following Kelsey was comical, as was his take on some of the situations she found herself in. Somehow even though Hunt had been to hell and back while in the Marines and with a childhood that was no picnic either, he grew up to be a caring guy with a strong moral compass. I had to admire that in him.

This was once again written by Cora Carmack in a very straight-forward but engaging manner, which I loved. My only gripe is that the novella ended just before Hunt and Kelsey’s relationship changed completely, so we don’t get to see his thoughts on everything that happened. I am thankful to have gotten some insight, though, as it added a bit more depth to their story overall.

I think fans of the Losing It series interested in getting Hunt’s perspective will not be disappointed in this New Adult novella.

A few months after being honorably discharged from the military, Jackson Hunt is still struggling to adjust back to the real world. He needs to get a job and find a sense of normalcy if he’s going to keep his own demons at bay. The job that falls into his lap, though, is anything but normal.

Bodyguard (and baby-sitter) to spoiled-rich-girl Kelsey Summers isn’t exactly what he’d been looking for, but it’s a chance to travel, to get away from the home that has felt stifling ever since his return. It would be a pretty sweet gig if it weren’t for the fact that Kelsey’s father doesn’t want Kelsey to know she’s being followed. Hunt feels guilty (and a little bit creepy) as he watches her from afar. She’s vibrant and infuriating, exciting and reckless, mysterious and familiar. When he sees her falling into the same patterns that he suffered years ago, he decides it’s time to stop watching and help her instead. But getting to know her is more difficult than he thought, especially because the more he knows her, the more he wants her.
