She’s the One (Counting on Love #1) by Erin Nicolas, Dr. Amanda Dixon is the director of clinical education at St. A’s, a local hospital. She is sexy and smart and as the oldest sister in the family, the mother hen to her three sisters and brother. Conner Dixon, Amanda’s brother, is the oldest Dixon, and took it upon himself to seriously look out for her and her sisters when their dad passed away years ago. Amanda presents herself as a professional, controlled young woman, but she yearns to be wild.

Paramedic and running back Ryan Kaye lives on the wild-side. Women are naturally drawn to him because he has a special charisma that just draws them in. He has a lot of experience with the opposite sex but has never been in a long-standing relationship. An unintentional brawl brings Amanda and Ryan together and that’s when the fireworks begin. However, Ryan and Conner are very close friends, and Conner has made it clear that he does not want any of his friends dating any of his sisters. Thus, a relationship of any kind is challenging to say the least.

Ryan brings out Amanda’s wild-side while Amanda causes Ryan to think about a long-term relationship. They are hot and heavy for each other, in addition to being extremely compatible. Naturally life interrupts their short-term bliss and they have to work hard if they want a future together.

This book has been on my TBR list since it was published a couple of months ago. The cover is hot and the reviews are really good, so I was super excited when I got the opportunity to review it for HJ. I wanted to like it, since I have truly enjoyed some of the Erin’s other works, but I did not care for it. Getting through the first half was difficult and I found myself continually checking for how many pages were left to read. There are many characters introduced in the beginning of the story and I had to reread the first chapter to make sure I understood who was who in conjunction with their occupation.

On a positive note, the sex scenes are hot and left me panting; there is nothing like reading an Erin Nicholas love scene. I especially enjoyed the wittiness and banter of Amanda’s sister Emma. Although She’s the One was not my cup of tea, I plan on reading the next book in the series because I would like to know more about Amanda’s three sisters, and the next book focuses on Amanda’s sister Isabelle.

Sometimes you see love clearly. And sometimes it has to smack you in the face.

Counting on Love, Book 1

When a stranger walks up and punches him, Ryan Kaye assumes there’s a good reason. But he’s stunned to learn it’s over a one-night stand that never happened —with his friend’s sister, straight-laced Amanda Dixon. When Ryan confronts her about the lie, Amanda apologizes, but Ryan realizes he doesn’t want her to be sorry…he wants the night they supposedly spent together.

Amanda’s not looking to add anyone to her long list of commitments, so she was only trying to let a nice guy down easy by telling him a fling with Ryan broke her heart. So what if the fling only happened in her dreams? But when Ryan Kaye tempts her with the chance to go crazy and fulfill a few fantasies, she can’t resist. Thank goodness one night isn’t enough time to fall in love…
