Silent Night Shadows by Sarah Varland: As an avid, voracious reader, Silent-Night-ShadowsI am always excited to find a new author to follow, and in Sarah Varland, I know I have found another author whose work I will want to read again and again.

In Silent Night Shadows, we meet Claire, who works as an artist and as a café owner in a small town. She’s attacked on the way to a Christmas tree lighting, and saved by a newcomer to town, someone she realizes she went to college with. Nate is working undercover, with his cover being that he is a photographer. His true mission is to bring to justice a drug smuggling and manufacturing operation.

Over a period of several days he rescues Claire from numerous attempts on her life- the characters involved in the drug operation believe she has witnessed some of their transactions and are trying to remove her as a witness. Claire and Nate reestablish their old friendship, but both try to resist their growing attraction, believing he will not be sticking around. Her brother in law, a local police officer, works with Nate to try to determine which locals are involved in the drug operation.

I highly recommend Silent Night Shadows as a great combination of romance and suspense.

He’s in town undercover, investigating a drug smuggling ring, and he thinks she’s witnessed more than she realizes. Worse, he thinks the ring’s leader is a local. Someone she knows and trusts. There’s no one for her to rely on but Nate, a man whose action-packed life is worlds away from the security she craves.
