Stay Until We Break by Mercy Brown: Acting as tour manager for her friends’ band, Sonia is stay-until-we-break-mercy-brownmost excited about the close quarters with Cole, the bassist, also known as the guy she’s wanted for years but is too awkward to go for. Except, when Cole captures Sonia alone after a performance, things might just look up for Sonia’s crush.

As it begins heating up between the two, even as they get caught in the tension, real feeling begin blossoming, beyond the attraction they’ve shared. And it couldn’t come at a worse time for Cole. No one knows, but after this tour he’s done with the band, even if they finally get picked up by a label by the end. He has to go home and work for his uncle in order to support his sister through college.

Sonia dreams big for the band and for her own future in the industry touring the country, dreams far bigger than Cole’s own future. As they fall harder and harder for one another, will they be able to look past the differences and see how this romance can go past the road?

His hand reaches into my hair, stroking just softly enough to render me useless. Then he pulls his face from mine and smiles. s
“I’ve been wondering all day what flavor lip gloss you’ve got one.”
“Dr. Pepper,” I say, before my brain starts to work again.
“Lip Smackers?” He laughs. “Really?”

I liked both Sonia and Cole, despite some dumb decisions and behaviors, and overall Stay Until We Break is a cute story. They were definitely hot for one another and together, and their relationship was adorable and sweet. But that was when they were happy with one another. Too much of the story felt devoted to them not being on good terms or going back and forth with their feelings for one another.

And I gotta say I’m annoyed with the conflict, how he keeps this secret and it causes the crisis. I just see this type of issue too often and I’m tired it. Plus, Sonia annoyed me with how she dealt with it. Neither one really dealt with it. She found out and they both ran away in fits. Also, I’m all for having a good time, but the only good time this crew seemed to have was drinking and partying, and it was just way too much for me.

A fun group of people with some cool and quirky characters, Stay Until We Break was a fun, mindless read for me. For those who love the band romance, I recommend this story since it follows that life. Although, note it definitely feels young, the characters and voice. The second in a series it can be read as a standalone, but I know I want to read the third. I’m guessing they’re going for the third band member left single and I definitely want his story.
