In Sugared (Misfit Brides of Bliss #4) by Jamie Farrell, Josh Kincaid will do anything to save Sugaredhis adopted parents business, even sweet talk the shy and capricious woman that makes the most wonderful cupcakes into giving up her recipes. If necessary, he’s determined to play hardball. Except, it seems Kimmie has an agenda of her own, which is to get him to sign over his share of her family’s bakery.

”Stop sweethearting me.”
“Happy to sugar you instead.”
“Meaning it might work better.”
“Who says I don’t?”
“Everything about you says you don’t.” She needed to shut up. To remember the plan to nice him to death. To flirt with him. To – to threaten to tell the press she was pregnant with his alien love child if he didn’t surrender his share of Heaven’s bakery or let General Mom buy it from him.

Although I haven’t read the previous books of this series, this book can easily be read as a stand-alone. Right from the beginning, this fake-relationship trope encompassing story was hilarious, fast-paced and riveting due to the headlines each chapter had, whether it was a title for a newspaper column or a tweet; the dreams Kimmie tells when she gets nervous, which is often; the nickname Kimmie gives her mother; and everything that Kimmie does in trying to seduce Josh into signing over his share of the bakery.

As for the dialogue, it was compelling and I liked that Kimmie provided such a challenge for Josh. She’s impulsive at times, especially when Josh is least expecting it. Her description of him when she compares him to the kind of cupcake she believes him to be had me laughing. The heroine really knows how to take him by surprise. Yet, at the same time he knows how to take her by surprise as well, especially with his master baker joke.

Kimmie sucked in a breath. “I guess I’d say you have potential.”
He barked out a laugh. “Potential.”
“You could be a nice person. If you wanted to be.”
“Nice doesn’t win, sugar.”
“Then all you’ll ever have is potential.”

I really liked both main characters. Kimmie is amusing, hard-working, and being with Josh gives her the confidence to finally stand up to her mother, because he isn’t afraid of the woman that seems to command the small town as if she’s the town General. The things Kimmie does to seduce Josh were entertaining, as I wasn’t sure whether her attempts were going to help or backfire. Those moments were what I liked most about her because they seemed so out of her comfort zone, and still she tried her best.

While Josh, he’s confident, tenacious, and would do anything for the two people that changed his life. His parents made his life better when he was at a low point in his past, and no way will he let their business go under. Trying to convince the heroine that his parents business is worth saving was harder than he thought it would be, and I liked Kimmie’s reactions when Josh took her on a tour of the business that means so much to him. I couldn’t help but smile when she told Josh off about where cake is not to be made and gives her opinion on what she thinks of him. Really, her feistiness had me cheering because it was about time she stood up for herself and stopped allowing people to keep using her for her baking talent.

With the secondary characters, I really liked how protective Kimmie’s friends were of her and how much Josh’s parents liked her, despite the incident of the heroine playing a sport that left his mother injured. The only secondary character that did annoy me was Kimmie’s mother. Certainly, she lived up to her nickname the way she bossed everyone around.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, which had a nice blend of comedic moments and the sex scenes were low in number but hot and did this couple’s strong chemistry justice. Definitely, the saying ‘opposites attract’ applies to Kimmie and Josh. I really liked how this author wrapped up the story with how Josh proved his love for the heroine by entering in a contest he had no hope of winning. Because his partner was questionable until his perfect woman realized how much the hero needed her. Then there was the epilogue that proves dreams can come true. I would recommend Sugared by Jamie Farrell, if you like romantic comedies, or enjoy the opposites attract and fake relationship tropes.
