REVIEW: Sweet Harmony by Luann McLane

In Sweet Harmony (Cricket Creek #7) by Luann McLane, super star musician Cat has left her record label and Nashville for Cricket Creek, Kentucky. Escaping the spotlight, here in Cricket Creek with an independent record label, Cat plans to write the music of her heart.

Sweet-HarmonyJeff is a Cricket Creek native, farmer, and country music singer. Sparks fly when Jeff and Cat meet, despite the fact that he is not impressed with Cat’s music or her plans. Jeff and Cat might have started out on the wrong foot and bad assumptions, but it doesn’t stay that way for long. Soon they are making great music together in and out of the studio. They work well together, but can they work together and be a couple? Or is that too much to expect? Can Cat and Jeff have it all? When career decisions need to be made can they make it work, or will it force them apart?

Sweet Harmony is not only about the romance of Jeff and Cat. There is a lot more going on, with some great secondary characters and secondary plots. With a variety of emotions throughout Sweet Harmony, Luann gives us some fun, love and heartache neatly wrapped up together. I really enjoyed Cat’s character. Putting aside her celebrity, she has real life issues that are not often written about, bringing her to vibrant life. She is not perfect, but she if funny, sensitive and giving. I did like Jeff too. He is driven, and despite how he initially felt about Cat, he was able to let go of his preconceived notions about her and really get to know her.

I think they work well as a couple together, and Luann brings them together well and uniquely. They have great passion and chemistry, the build up is slow and steady, and they are hot together without being explicit which works well with the plot. I liked seeing their characters grow and open up in Sweet Harmony.

Sweet Harmony is part of the Cricket Creek series. I have read some but not all of these, and while I feel Sweet Harmony can be read alone, reading the other books in the series will help give a broader outlook on the rest of the characters.

Well paced and easy to read, I’d recommend Sweet Harmony to contemporary romance readers, especially if you like music and small towns.

Cricket Creek, Kentucky, is no Nashville—it’s a sweet, small town outside the big-city limelight. But here, two headstrong country music stars will need to rely on their Southern roots and explosive chemistry to top the charts together.

When Cat Carson drops her record label and signs with an independent label based in Cricket Creek, it’s a huge upset in the music world. But the residents of Cricket Creek are thrilled to have a real country music star in their midst. Everyone except Jeff Greenfield, that is—a local rising star himself, who’s been asked to record a duet with the stunning beauty.

Jeff grew up on a farm, but his smooth, soulful country style is starting to get him noticed outside Cricket Creek. And while a duet with Cat Carson could send his career skyrocketing, he doesn’t want to lose touch with his roots—or lose his head. Because sparks are flying every time he and Cat hit the studio. And it’s more than a little distracting….

Thanks for the review, Sue. I haven’t read any Cricket Creek books, but this one sounds good. I might have to try out the series with it. 😉
