The Billionaire’s Bid by Kaira Rouda: On an island, with your heritage at stake what would you be willing to give up or do?

BidAubrey Templeton lost both of her parents to an awful car crash only a year ago, and with them died her perception of her life. She now had a mountain of bills, the threat of foreclosure and so much uncertainty she didn’t know what to do and after almost a year of wallowing in the grief she finally decided to do something with the land her parents left her.

James Putnam was one of the richest men on Indigo Island, and a fairly big logging magnate, posed to become CEO at the next board meeting. He was a far cry away from the playboy alcoholic he had been only a year ago. Now if only he could get the Templeton deal settled things would be well and everything could move forward as it should.

When old rivals stick their heads into new business deals and when men don’t remember nights spent things tend to twist and bunch in uncomfortable ways. Will James and Aubrey be able to work together? Will they be able to rekindle a fire that once burned? Or will they get run off the island?

Ms. Rouda gives us a faced paced story back on the island and while this is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. Whichever way you chose though, you should chose to read this novella. It has competition, love, a little bit of “witch craft”, fear, hurt and forgiveness. So much can change in a year, this novella will have you wondering what are you doing now?

Handsome tycoon James Putnam is acting CEO of his family’s logging company, Putnam Industries. He needs to land a big deal to prove to the board he’s capable of taking over the company. If not, his father’s right-hand-man Walter is more than willing to fill the role. James hurries to Indigo Island alone, certain he has what it takes to land the deal.

Aubrey Templeton is a gorgeous magazine reporter facing a mountain of debt after her parents’ tragic deaths. The only asset she has to leverage is 2,500 acres of land on Indigo Island. She hires Dirk Cooley, a forester, to create a forest management plan for her family’s land and to solicit multiple logger bids to lease the land. Aubrey makes sure James Putnam’s company is included. Aubrey and James shared a night she’ll never forget and she’s certain, once he sees her, he’ll want a repeat as much as she does. What she doesn’t know is that Dirk’s goal in life is to destroy the Putnam family and he doesn’t care who goes down with them.

Will James recognize Aubrey as more than a sexy landowner? Could she become a partner in both love and business? Will they uncover Dirk’s plot before it’s too late? Will they recognize the common roots that lead to love?

Thanks for the review, Valerie. I haven’t read the other books in this series so it’s good to know it can stand alone.
