The Boss’s Nine Month Negotiation by Maya Blake: A tempestuous relationship goes through some dramatic ups and downs in this latest romance by Maya Blake. Sienna Newman is excited to be seeing her lover Emiliano Castillo after his brief absence during a trip home to Argentina. The fact that she’s wanted to keep their relationship hidden, since he’s her boss, is a sore point between them but she still has high hopes for their future – until she discovers that he’s become engaged to another woman!

Emiliano’s trip home was a disaster in more ways this one. With his brother Matias in the hospital, it’s up to him to save the family fortune and marrying into the family of the man who holds their debt seems to be the only solution. Caught between his duty and his lover, he chooses duty. Sienna leaves him, rightly so, yet he can’t stop thinking about her. When he sees her out with another man, his jealousy is acute, but in her haste to get away from him Sienna falls and hits her head. When Sienna wakes up in hospital, her memory loss seems to be short term, the last two months gone. Believing she and Emiliano are still together and that she still works for him, the news that she is three months pregnant is a shock to them both. Emiliano is determined that he won’t lose this chance to be a father, and he must find a way to fix everything so that he and Sienna can be together once again. But when Sienna regains her memory, will the knowledge that they had broken off their affair once already, and why, break her heart again?

I always find it interesting to read about an established couple (at least somewhat in this case) who find themselves going through rocky times before getting to their real happy ever after. An amnesiac event is a sure way to bring the characters together and rekindle the relationship between them, no matter what’s occurred in the past.

Emiliano is in a tough fix. Obligated to help out his family, a marriage of convenience with a woman he doesn’t love (who was supposed to marry his now injured brother) will ruin what he has with Sienna. Though he hasn’t professed his love for Sienna, he’s showered her with gifts and affection. Their love scenes are passionate and intense, as are their arguments. With the knowledge that Sienna is carrying his child and doesn’t remember their breakup, he’s all the more determined to find a way to end the bind his family has put him in. His solution puts an end to one problem, but leads to more as they find their way to their happy ending.

Their family situations on the surface seem completely opposite. Sienna is an orphan, while Emiliano has grown up in a wealthy and privileged lifestyle. But regardless of their upbringing, both of them are lacking in emotional bonds since childhood, which makes their attachment to each other all that much stronger. In the end they find that bond has led to love after all, and there is a sweet epilogue too. This is a passionate, turbulent romance with drama and intensity that fans of the author and the Harlequin Presents line will enjoy.
