The Daddy Wish (Those Engaging Garretts #6) by Brenda Harlen: Nate Garrett is sexy, smart, enjoying his The-Daddy-Wishsingle status, and looking forward to taking over as CFO for his uncle in the family business. He’s been attracted to Allison since he returned, but after sharing a kiss at the office Christmas party, she’s all he can think about. Allison loves her job and she’s a dedicated mom to her son, Dylan. While Nate has always flustered her, she’s determined not to get involved with her soon-to-be boss.

Allison is determined to forget that kiss ever happened, but she starts getting to know Nate as they start working together and going on business trips. She can’t ignore Nate while he is so kind, generous, and willing to let her lead in acting on their attraction. Nate is also persistent and he continues to show up and provide Allison with any help she may need, whether or not she asks for it.

“I already know that I can’t,” he told her.
“Maybe you just need to try a little harder.”
“Are you saying that you have forgotten?”
“I’m saying that I’m not going to let anything interfere with our working relationship.”
“I know how to separate business from pleasure,” he assured her.
“Let’s keep the focus on business,” she suggested.
“That doesn’t sound like nearly as much fun.”
“I like my job and I want to keep my job,” she told him. “Which means I’m definitely not going to sleep with my boss.”
His lips curved. “I’m not your boss yet.”
She lifted a brow. “Your point?”
“We could use the next few weeks to get this…attraction…out of our systems, so that it won’t be an impediment to our working together.”
“Thank you for that uniquely intriguing offer,” she said primly, “but no.”

Nate finds himself in the very unusual position of pursuing a woman; women usually chase him. Nate understands how important Dylan is to Allison, so he goes out of his way to make a good first impression. I loved how nervous he was! Due to Nate’s reputation, he also has to work to convince Allison that he’s ready for something more than just a good time.

The Daddy Wish is a delightful contemporary office romance. I loved the interactions between Allison and Nate! Ms. Harlen created great secondary characters in Dylan, Chelsea, and the Garrett family.

While The Daddy Wish by Brenda Harlen is a part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book.

This could be the merger of a lifetime.

The holidays are over, but Allison Caldwell can’t stop thinking about the kiss she shared with Nathan Garrett under the mistletoe. The dazzlingly attractive playboy she’s secretly crushed on for years isn’t just off-limits because he’s out of her league; the heir apparent to the Garrett furniture empire is about to be crowned CFO and the single mother’s new boss!

One night changed everything for Nathan. And now his executive assistant is strictly hands-off despite their intense physical attraction. Besides, Allison has a son, and Nathan’s no family man. Then why is Nathan’s head suddenly filled with fantasies of being a father? Perhaps this once-happy bachelor won’t be single for long.
