In The Heart Won’t Lie by Vicki Lewis Thompson, successful author Michael Hartford (aka Jim Ford) writes books about cowboys and the old west.  Due to the realism of his writings, his readers’ believe him to be a bona-fide cowboy.  Michael is actually a city dweller, born and bred in New York City.  He comes from wealth and decides to pursue a career in writing instead of following in the family business.  Michael’s publicist has arranged a video promotion for his upcoming THWLbook. He has come to spend a week at the The Last Chance Ranch in order to learn about being a cowboy, so he does not make a fool of himself in the video.  Ranch owner Jack Chance has agreed to teach Michael everything he needs to know about the life of a cowboy.

Spunky housekeeper Keri Fitzpatrick has been working at the Last Chance Ranch for about a year.  Her life prior to Jackson Hole was in Baltimore Maryland.  She was a socialite and worked in public relations. Due to a social incident that permanently labeled her the “New Year’s Eve Brawler,” she decided to get away and start a new life.  She wanted to find herself and earn her own way, without touching her trust fund.  Once Keri found her true self, she planned on moving on.  She ends up loving Jackson Hole and plans on making the city her permanent home.

Instant sparks ignite when Michael and Keri meet for the first time.  In a very short period of time, they become friends and hot lovers. Their similar upbringings and commonalities only add to their fire for each other.  Lust evolves into true love.

Michael’s cowboy lessons are going well and Jack’s instruction about all things cowboy prove to be invaluable.  Michael is able to channel his feelings for Keri into riding and horse cutting, which helps his anxiety immensely. No one would ever know he isn’t a true cowboy after this week.

Luckily, Michael and Keri are able to be couple in the city they have both grown to love.

This is a good read.  The love scenes are sensual and a teeny-bit kinky.  This is one of many books in the Sons of Chance series and I am looking forward to the next one.
