REVIEW: The Only Woman to Defy Him by Carol Marinelli

In The Only Woman to Defy Him by Carol Marinelli, Demyan Zukov wicked reputation is no exaggeration. He is the ultimate alpha playboy with a cold and unaffected attitude. His ex wife, Nadia is however is threatening to take away his fourteen year old son to Russia with her. The turmoil in his life is becoming too much to handle when he meets Alina TOWTDHRitchi, his new temporary PA when he comes to Sydney.

Alina’s bright and optimist attitude brings a burst of sunshine in Demeyan’s dark and isolated life. She might be a virgin but surely one hot glance from Demyan shouldn’t make her feel so…naked? Exposed, she finds that his gaze ignites her defiance.

The Only Woman to Defy Him by Carol Marinelli is a well written dramatic romance. Demyan is an alpha hero and a playboy who had a unfortunate childhood in his native country, Russia. His past has made him cold, aloof and unemotional in all matters except which concern his son, Roman.

I found his attitude towards Alina in the starting to be rude and cold. He did not treat her right for a while at the beginning of the book. He stood for her a few times when his son insulted her but serious grovelling was required from him and it was disappointing when it did not came ay the end. Alina is the shy virginal and accommodating heroine. She was inexperienced in real estate but the agency she works for sends her to a multimillionaire without cross referencing her resume and simply taking her word for it. Contrary to the title, she was not the woman who defied Demeyan at every word but she was rather very accommodating to his every whim.

The romance was hot with explicit and descriptive scenes. There was also enough drama in the form of the ex wife and the son to keep me hooked to the story. But unfortunately, I wasn’t able to connect with the main characters and relate of their actions and emotions

Overall, The Only Woman to Defy Him by Carol Marinelli is a well written romance which would have been perfect if the heroine had grown a backbone and the hero was a little less of brute. But if you prefer your heroines to be sweet and your heroes to be a total hard core alpha then you will probably love the characters and this book.
