REVIEW: The Sight by Chloe Neill

In The Sight (Devil’s Isle #2) by Chloe Neill, being a sensitive is TheSightdangerous for Claire Connolly, because if she loses control of her magic, she could end up hurting innocent people. With the help of bounty hunter, Liam Quinn, Claire has managed to keep herself in check and stay under the radar from those that would imprison her. Yet, when a dangerous cult starts creating trouble for paranormals, Claire can’t just sit on the sidelines and allow them to keep creating havoc. The question is – will fighting for good against evil lose her the people that are important to her?

”You know where we’re going?”
“I do. And it’s my store, so I’m in charge.”
Yes, ma’am,” he said, with a drawl.
I just rolled my eyes. “There’s a different attitude here. Follow my lead.”
“Don’t take ridiculous chances.”
“We live in a war zone by choice,” I pointed out, hefting a box. “We take chances every day.”

Having really liked the first book of this series, I couldn’t wait to have the opportunity to read this story, and I’ve got to say that it does not disappoint. Whereas The Veil, the first book of this series for Ms. Neill, introduces the characters and what they’ve been through in the war between humans and paranormals and what has happened to the two races, this book was a bit more action-packed and kept me turning the pages with everything that Claire goes through due to members of the cult determined to make sure she doesn’t disrupt their plans.

The dialogue was well-written and intense due to Claire and Liam’s back stories, what the cult do to the pair and what happens towards the end of this book that causes the heroine to make the decision she does to prohibit being locked up with all the other paranormals. However, there were some really good, playful moments between the hero and heroine that had me laughing or smiling. Liam and Claire have become quite close, even though the hero doesn’t like magic because of what happened to his sister.

“Quit trying to cheer me up.”
He slid me a quick glance. “You’d rather wallow?”
“At the moment, yeah, I would.”
Brow furrowed, he futzed around under his seat. “I may have a cassette of depressing violin music in here somewhere.”

Claire is a wonderful heroine. She’s strong, brave and I liked how determined she is to learn to control her magic. Learning from other supernaturals to control her magic was exciting. Could she find a way to succeed or would she lose her freedom? She’s also kind and caring with what she does for one of her friends, although it isn’t easy for her to give someone so much control over something that means a lot to her. While Liam, he’s absolutely charming and I loved how protective he was of Claire. She needs someone besides her close friends that will do anything to help her. Then there’s the relationship he has with his brother. There’s no knowing how they’re going to react towards each other, but at least this time they seemed to get along better.

Overall, this was a really good book where the relationship between Liam and Claire just keeps getting stronger. They have such intense chemistry, and here is to hoping that they manage to find happiness after the way this story ended. As for the ending, it definitely made things interesting for the next book. How will Liam deal with what happened to him? Will the hero and heroine find a way to help each other? I would recommend The Sight by Chloe Neill, if you enjoy Fantasy or Sci-Fi Romance.
