In To Play With Fire by Tina Beckett, Marcos Pinheiro cannot help thinking about the hot wild and shameless night he spent with his colleague Maggie. It was supposed to a one night stand for both of them but one night is not enough for how they both feel about each. Maggie’s heart been buried for long due to her traumatic past and its difficult for her to escape the shadows of her past but only in Marcos’s arms has she ever felt free from her past demons. But is Marcos’s passion enough to banish the shadows forever?

TPWFTo Play With Fire by Tina Beckett is the first part in the miniseries of Hot Brazilian Docs! which tells the story of two brothers who were separated when they were young. This book is about the elder brother Marcos, who grew up in a orphanage in his home country, Brazil. The two brothers are united in the end of the story and it also forms the base of the next book in the series–The Dangers of Dating Dr. Carvalho by Tina Beckett

The story started out with a great pace and the chemistry between the main characters is evident quite early on. Marco is a self made man and has come a long way from his days at the orphanage. Maggie is doing an internship under Marcos and has been through a traumatic experience in the past. She is afraid to trust anyone and has closed her heart but Marcos helps her to move on from the demons of her past. The romance is a perfect mixture of physical and emotional intimacy. There are also enough medical details to satisfy the reader.

However, the pace of the story becomes very slow halfway through and the relationship takes its time to develop. I could not buy into the conflict towards the end of the story because it seemed a little unrealistic and forced to me. While the main characters are likable enough, I was more interested in the secondary characters–Sophia who had grown with Marcos in the orphanage and Lucas who is Marcos long lost brother. This for me is not a good thing because the main characters need to be more interesting than the secondary.

Overall, To Play With Fire by Tina Beckett is an enjoyable romance. If you like slow paced medical romances and are a fan of the author’s previous works then you may enjoy this one as well.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like a good story, but I think that sometimes these medical romance series fall flat for some reason.
