Turbulent Desires by Melody Anne: Attacked at work one night, ER turbulent-desires-melody-annenurse Lindsay was almost killed, and now, a year later, is able to force herself to work and do what’s necessary, but spends as much time hiding out in her house as possible. But Maverick, the brother of her best friend’s husband, won’t let her hide out, not anymore.

After a night spent together at his brother’s wedding, he’s wanted Lindsay. And now after the attack, he wants more than just to enjoy her company, he wants to help her through her pain, one familiar to him after his own experiences in the war.

Lindsay isn’t so sure. She’s too attracted to Maverick, but can’t go there. In fact, she can’t even handle being touched. And yet, Maverick doesn’t make her uncomfortable. He seems to be the only one who can make her feel normal, and soon enough, being with Maverick becomes addicting. Only, their relationship has a time limit. Maverick knows he won’t be tied down, never for long, and Lindsay only plans to enjoy the confidence Maverick gives her until she can stand on her own.

When Anne has a cute story, I really enjoy her books. They can be cute and a whole lot of fun, but Turbulent Desires just didn’t work for me at all. It felt quite melodramatic and the writing style was far too choppy and awkward. I really wanted to like Turbulent Desires because Maverick was adorable and totally likable.

However, Maverick’s reasons for not wanting a relationship, and Lindsay not even fighting for the man she loves, makes no sense. I never understood why they couldn’t have their happy ending almost immediately. Little conflict occurred, and they really were perfect together. I can’t say I particularly liked Lindsay. I felt for her situation, but it didn’t feel real, and I just didn’t care for her as the heroine.

For those who love quick, cute fluff, I would recommend Turbulent Desires. It’s sweet, and, as the second of a series, can be read as a standalone. Although I definitely recommend reading the first. It was a lot of fun, and while Turbulent Desires didn’t match up for me, Anne’s a fun writer to enjoy.
