REVIEW: Undaunted by Joss Wood

Undaunted by Joss Wood: Reagan is no shrinking violet. She grew up Undauntedwithout a feminine influence and she’s always sought the attention and approval of her strict father. After losing her brother in the war, she was determined to keep his best friends in her life. Now, she’s earned her way into Caswallawn Security as a bodyguard and she’s very good at her job. She’s determined, loyal, and very persistent.

Axl loves working with his best friends and he’s very good at what they do, as he is powerful, intimidating, and very protective. He’s especially protective of Reagan, since he served with her brother. He’s just as stubborn as Reagan is persistent, which means that they are constantly arguing.

Working together proves to be quite challenging as both feel the attraction that burns so bright between them. They had their reasons for not acting on their chemistry, but now that both are living in Mercy all bets are off.

“No. No to puppies, kittens, and men of any kind,” Reagan answered her.
“You might have to renegotiate that clause,” Axl said, his voice just low enough for her to hear.
“You might have to stop listening to those voices in your head,” Reagan shot back. “We are not going to sleep together, Rhoades!”

Reagan definitely challenges Axl as she is fiercely independent and can take care of herself. They argue until they finally give in to the attraction simmering between them. As their relationship shifts, Axl has to deal with the new feelings that Reagan evokes in him and the increased danger around Reagan’s client.

“Axl?”
“Mmm?”
“Do you want to put me down?”
“If I do, it’s not going to be pretty.”
“I’m sure I can cope,” Reagan said, her voice super dry.

Undaunted is a steamy return to Mercy and the world of the best friends who run Caswallawn Security. Joss Wood brings the tension, anticipation, drama, angst, heat, and danger in this workplace romance. Ms. Wood created interesting and engaging characters in a series that I can’t wait to revisit. Undaunted can be read as a standalone book in the Men of Mercy series. Fans of Lorelei James and Jeanette Murray will enjoy Undaunted.

Security has never been as sexy as when the Men of Mercy are on the job, in the second in this steamy series from the author of Inescapable.

Axl Rhodes has always been a person who fixes problems and saves the day, first during his years in the military and now in his current work as part owner of Caswallawn Security. Even his romantic history is filled with women desperately seeking a savior. So it’s no wonder that despite his intense attraction to Regan Mitchell, the irrepressible younger sister of his former SEAL teammate, he can never envision a future with her.

Regan is anything but a damsel in distress. As Caswallawn’s only female protection officer, she can hold her own against the toughest clients—and her fellow guards. She’s had a thing for Axl since she was a teenager, but she refuses to let any man call the shots in her life—no matter how much or how long she’s wanted him.

But when Regan and Axl are forced to work together to keep a high-profile client safe from a dangerous stalker, the sparks between them are too hot to ignore. And as they give in to the passion between them, they may find that losing control is much more fun that keeping it…

Includes a teaser of the first Men of Mercy novel, Inescapable.
