In Veiled Target (Veilers #1) by Robin Bielman, For the last twelve years, Tess Damon has never questioned her job as an eliminator. She’s part of an organization of trained assassins who are tasked to eliminate Veilers, beings who are not completely human, and who are a threat to others. But her latest assignment to find and kill wolfen Hugh Langston changes everything. Not only can Tess not find the evidence VTarthat Hugh is actually guilty, he’s also the key to finding her late-fiance’s murderer. They join forces on her investigation when they both come under threat, forcing Tess to make a decision that could alter her career and her heart forever.

“You mean you’re not going to whisper sweet nothings in my ear?”
He resumed the button task. “Anything I might say in the next hour is not going to be sweet.”
Tess shuddered. “Hour?” Holy shit. “That’s the sexiest thing you could say right there.”

Alpha wolfen Hugh Langston needs to find out why Trey, his second in command, is missing and if it is due to a threat by humans or another pack. His search brings him in contact with Tess Damon, who may know more than she’s letting on. Deciding it would be safer to keep a close eye on her, Hugh teams up with the stunning woman who proves she can hold her own fighting the bad guys. But he gets more than he bargained for when he realizes he might not be able to part ways once their investigation is over.

“What do you mean?”
“…Not a second goes by that you’re not in my head. And if you have to kill me in order to save yourself, I’ll happily oblige.” He sucked in a sharp breath. “I mean you’re my mate.”

Veiled Target is the exciting first novel in the new paranormal/shifter series Veilers by Robin Bielman. Get ready for sparks to fly when a possessive shifter and a smart-mouthed assassin fall head-over-heels for each other.

This was my first time reading anything by Robin Beilman, and based on this book, I will be picking up some more titles by her very soon. I had a lot of fun with Veiled Target, both with the characters and the plot. There was a thread of intrigue that kept me guessing who was after our protagonists, and although I had figured it out correctly part way through the story, I wasn’t really sure until the very end. You have to like that in a story.

I also thought the characters were well developed, with their dialogue and personalities fitting their roles in the story quite well. I loved how confident Tess was at her job as an eliminator, letting that show in her sassy tone and physical strength. Even better was how Hugh was turned on by her physical and mental strength, getting a kick out of her determined mindset. Their chemistry together was sensual, raw, and unmistakable. They were simply meant to be together, and from the first moment they met, they both knew it. (Although they tried to deny it.) That scene in the bar was one of those happy-sigh-inducing moments I love in romance novels.

I think you’ll enjoy Veiled Target if you like thrilling action scenes with a sense of humor, and two willful people who are destined to be a couple.

Never take Fate along on a date. The kiss goodnight could be deadly.

A Veilers Novel, Book 1

Tracking down Veilers—non humans—is only a sideline for Tess Damon. Vengeance for her fiancé’s murder is her reason for living. But with two botched jobs on her record, if she fails to eliminate her next mark, she’s dead. She’s not afraid to die, but not before she gets even. Too bad fate has a really bad sense of humor.

Hugh Langston, a wolfen half shifter, lives to keep both humans and his pack safe. But when rogue humans kidnap his apprentice, his rescue mission is compromised by a hot-as-hell, kick-ass woman who makes him think only one thing: mine.

Tess tries to ignore her feelings, but temptation trips her up. Especially when Hugh figures out he’s her next target and forces her into an inconvenient alliance that tests all the laws against their attraction. Now, with the line between good and evil getting blurrier by the minute, it becomes clear Tess’s only hope of living to see another day—and finding a murderer—lies with the one man she’s supposed to kill.

Warning: Contains one obscenely hot alpha and the woman who wants to love him before she kills him. Look out for a blind date, scorching sex, humor, lies, and untamable attraction.
