REVIEW: Viper Game by Christine Feehan

In Viper Game (GhostWalkers #11) by Christine Feehan, Becoming a GhostWalker and being enhanced with special Viper-Gamecatlike abilities was probably not the wisest choice for doctor and healer Wyatt Fontenot. But what’s done is done. The Cajun part of him is very glad to finally be back home in the bayou for a while, however the soldier in him knows there’s trouble brewing in his beloved swamp. And that trouble happens to be in the form of a gorgeous woman named Pepper, who throws Wyatt’s life–and libido–into overdrive in his attempt to save her. With the aid of his friends, and fellow supersoldiers, he’ll risk everything to protect his home, family, and the woman who has captured his heart.

“Maybe rescuin’ you is part of the attraction, or maybe you’re rescuin’ me. Did you ever think of that? That you might be my savior?”

Pepper knows she should have kept running instead of watching the handsome man fighting bad guys at the edge of the swamp, but she’s never been so drawn to someone in her life. And as it turns out, Wyatt is her perfect match in every way. While his Grand-Mere helps her and one of the children she’s protecting, Pepper and Wyatt form a connection that cannot be severed. Even when she explains her lethal abilities as being part snake and part cat, neither he, his Grand-Mere, nor the other enhanced soldiers flinch. Could Pepper and the three precious girls she’s in charge of finally find out what it is like to have love in their lives?

‘The moment his mouth touched hers, she went up in flames. There was no holding back no matter how hard she tried. She’d waited her entire lifetime for him.’

Viper Game was an action-packed novel which had an exciting blend of paranormal beings with interesting abilities, lots of alpha male attitude, family loyalty, and passionate romance.

Admittedly, I am new to Christine Feehan’s GhostWalker series, so I had a lot to learn about these amazing people. I thought the world created for these books was nicely complex, especially the plot itself, but it was also easy for readers to understand. That being said, I think you could read each installment as a standalone, although it would be more cohesive reading them in order from the beginning. There were a lot of characters here; all of them being integral to the storyline and very interesting in their own right. The door was left open at the end of this novel for the series to continue, and it looks as though Wyatt’s good friend and fellow soldier, Trap, will likely be the focus.

Wyatt and Pepper were a pretty explosive couple. They had such intense chemistry that their scenes together were always lust-fueled and extremely sexy. I loved that Wyatt was normally a laid-back Cajun man at home in the bayou, but Pepper brought out the possessive alpha male in him. Which, being that he had been enhanced with cat DNA, made him that much more territorial about her. He had a dominant side that came out, which made for uber hot love scenes and a ton of fun and dirty dialogue. I think what I liked most about Wyatt, though, was his loyalty and his moral compass. He would do anything for those he cared about and tried his best to always do right by them.

Pepper was a very interesting character as well. I could easily empathize with her situation after we learn more about her background and how she was treated. She carried a lot of shame and guilt for the enhancements that were done to her and the fact that she was trained to use her venom (and sex) as a weapon. And when Pepper realized her attraction to Wyatt was real, not part of her abilities, it was a lot of fun to watch her experience love for the first time. Her personal growth through the story was slow while she overcame obstacles, but was quite inspiring as she realized her own self-worth.

If you like your paranormal romances super hot and with lots of suspense as well, look no further than Viper Game.

Hailed as “the queen of paranormal romance” by J.R. Ward, #1 New York Times bestselling author “Christine Feehan continues to amaze readers” (The Eternal Night) with her phenomenal novels. Now, from the author of the Dark Carpathian series, comes the newest in Christine Feehan’s explosive GhostWalker series…

GhostWalker Wyatt Fontenot knows the price he paid for the secret military experiments that gave him his special catlike abilities. After all, he left his bayou home a healer and came back a killer. While Wyatt and his GhostWalker brother Gator may have known exactly the sort of game they were getting into, Wyatt never anticipated where it would lead—or to whom.

The swamps hold many mysteries, but few are as sinuously seductive as Le Poivre de Cayenne. The woman the locals call Pepper is every bit as enigmatic as the three little girls she’s desperately trying to protect. From what, Wyatt is soon to discover. Right now Pepper needs a man like Wyatt. Passionately. But her secrets are about to take them both deeper into the bayou than either imagined—where desire is the deadliest poison of all.

Thanks for the review, Michele. I’ve never read this series since I’m not a big paranormal reader, but it must be popular since this is book #11.
