Wild About the Wrangler by Vicki Lewis Thompson: Anastasia is a very talented artist who is gaining Wild-About-the-Wranglerfame for her depictions of Ghost, a wild stallion, that she’s never seen in person. As a little girl, she was fascinated and enchanted by horses. But after a bad experience, she’s lived in fear and refused to have anything to do with horses apart from her drawings based on photos.

Mac is one of the cowboys who helped to save the town of Bickford when he came and helped to start up the adventure company. He leads trail rides and regularly takes photos of Ghost, specifically for Anastasia.

Since coming to town, Mac and Anastasia have become really good friends even though they are both tempted to have more. Each have their reasons for fighting the attraction. When Anastasia decides it’s time to conquer her fear and learn how to ride, she turns to Mac for riding lessons. He knows it’s a bad idea, but he also can’t quite say no to her.

“Probably. But I…One kiss. That’s it.”
He took off his hat and laid it on the straw bale. “We’re both liable to regret this.”
“I’ll never ask you again.”
Slowly he cupped her face in both hands and looked into her eyes. “One kiss and that’s it.”

Mac is a great teacher and finds a number of unique approaches to help Anastasia confront and get past her fear of horses. The lessons give them plenty of opportunities to get to know each other even better. The lessons also test their ability to resist the growing temptation to give into their chemistry. While Anastasia would love to have a physical relationship, Mac is much more resistant. He knows that it’s only a matter of time before her talent takes her out of Bickford and his life.

“You’ll drag me? Really?”
“Actually I was hoping you’d come willingly. I’ve been hearing about your dancing skills for years, and I want to see what the commotion is all about. But if I end up dragging you out there by your ear, that will feed the gossip mill for weeks.”

Wild About the Wrangler is a slow burn, friends to lovers romance. Vicki Lewis Thompson provides a great pairing in Mac and Anastasia as they have to overcome their own fears. Ms. Thompson pulled you in with vivid descriptions of the scenery and the trusting and ever patient Jasper. Fans of Lorelei James will enjoy Wild About the Wrangler.
