Wild Montana by Danica Winters finds Customs and Border Patrol agent Casper Lawrence determined to regain his job with the FBI. He tags along with Park Ranger Alexis Finch as she checks out a potential crime scene that most have written off as a bear attack. Both Casper and Alexis believe there’s more to it than that, and when they find a bag filled with drugs they believe their suspicions are confirmed. As things heat up with the investigation, they also heat up between Casper and Alexis.

Both Casper and Alexis are hesitant to confide in one another. Casper had been burned by his ex-girlfriend, while Alexis had been hurt by the way her ex-husband Travis, who she still works with, had treated her during their marriage. As a result they both want to learn more about one another, but at the same time they’re hesitant to open up and expose their secrets.

“You know what?” Casper rebuked. “You’ve accused me of not telling you anything, but has it occurred to you that you haven’t told me anything, either?”

The book is action packed as the duo has to wade through the murky waters of the crime. Who was the victim? Who were the players? Who benefited by stealing evidence from Casper? The twist and turns keep readers on their toes. Just when it seems like one party was guilty, it seems like it could be someone else. Casper and Alexis don’t know who can be trusted, other than each other.

There were a couple of questions that weren’t resolved, such as where did Travis disappear to? Did the FBI consider giving Casper his old job back? That was, after all, the whole reason he had been so determined to solve the crime. He had been hoping it would open the door to returning to the Bureau, yet it was never mentioned if he was even given that opportunity.

Wild Montana is a quick, well-written book with non-stop action. If you’re looking for a romantic suspense, I would recommend giving this one a read.
