Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Kelly and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, All Messed Up!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

AMUMallory Hurst has tried to live a life that makes up for past mistakes. But now she faces a huge ethical dilemma. Her pharmaceutical company’s unapproved, off-label use of a medication puts lives at risk, and her protests have fallen on deaf ears.

Hoping a trip home will clear her head, she boards a plane for California. And strikes up a conversation with a handsome stranger.

Joe Mason recently learned that the man he’s called father all his life…isn’t. At least that explains why he never measured up to his older brothers. Flying to meet his biological father for the first time, he meets a sleek, sexy woman who makes him want to mess up her perfect hair.

Shared conversation leads to a shared drink between flights, then when their flight is canceled, a shared bed overnight—where their rush of attraction explodes into a night of much-needed kinky fun.

Yet a night of hot, messy sex won’t fix anything—in fact, blowing off steam could have blown their lives all to hell…

Please share the opening line of this book:

“Boarding would go a lot faster if people just waited their turn.”
Mallory Hurst reclined in the vinyl seat in O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, her phone with her electronic boarding pass on it in her hand, and turned to look at the man two seats over who’d just spoken to her. She gave him a wry smile. “True.”

Please share a few Random facts about this book…

I had the idea for a book about two strangers who meet in an airport, both at a difficult time in their lives, years ago, but it took a while to figure out the rest of their story.

My friend and fellow author Kate Davies had a real life flight like this which gave me all the details for first scenes of the book.

I kind of really wish there was a drug like Felise. ☺

Please tell us a little about the characters in your book. As you wrote your protagonist was there anything about them that surprised you?

Mallory is full of surprises. Her sexy lingerie underneath her businesslike clothes, the hidden tattoo and her locked-away kinky side…all are symbolic of the way she tries to live her life versus the way she really wants to.

Joe surprised me with his sense of humor. ☺

What, in your mind, distinguishes this book from other books out there in the same genre?

Well, the airport scenes for one. They are a tiny bit exhibitionist. Also, Joe’s “kink” isn’t one you read about very often in romance novels. ☺ And of course, I think all my books are very emotional and romantic.

The First kiss…

She was gorgeous. Smooth and polished, perfect shiny hair and satiny skin, sky blue eyes that he could now see were flecked with tiny shards of mauve and silver. “I wanna kiss you.”
Her lips parted and her long eyelashes fluttered down. And that was enough for him.
He leaned closer to her and found her mouth with his.
Fuck yeah. Her soft lips clung to his. Her scent rose around them, warm and feminine and faintly floral. His fingertips caressed her cheek, his thumb on her chin in the gentlest touch. She lifted a hand and laid it on his arm, but she wasn’t pushing him away. She was holding on.
He deepened the kiss, slanting his mouth a little more, opening his mouth over hers, pushing her lips open too, and his tongue traced over her plush bottom lip. She tasted sweet, fruity, faintly like wine, and when the tip of her tongue rubbed against his, his blood surged hotly through his veins, straight to his dick.
“How’s this?” he murmured, now cupping her face. “You are so sexy. I wanna take your clothes off and lick you all over. Wanna make you come.”
“That’s pretty good,” she replied breathlessly. “You’ve got a knack for talking dirty, I think.”
“Thank you. Maybe we should work at it some more.”

What scene did you have the most fun writing? Why?

Here’s a little snippet from the scene where Mallory asks Joe if guys like dirty talk in bed:

“So.” She gave Joe a bright smile. “I was just reading an article in a magazine about how to talk dirty in bed. Do guys like that?”
He blinked. “Wow. That change of subject just about gave me whiplash.”
She laughed. “Sorry.” She picked up a chip loaded with cheese.
“Um. Talk dirty in bed. Yeah. Sure. I like it. But not if it sounds fake.”
“Like what?”
“I mean, if she’s spouting off stuff that sounds like something she would never, ever say…like maybe it came from a bad porn movie…that would feel awkward.”
“Like ‘Fill me up, Daddy, fuck my tight cunt. Make me scream with that big dick of yours.’”
He choked on his beer, laughing. “Okay, yeah.” But damn if his dick didn’t thicken a little at the dirty words. “I don’t ever want to hear the word ‘Daddy’ in bed.”
She grinned.
“It doesn’t have to be vulgar to be sexy,” he said. “It could actually be something like, ‘make me come’ or ‘you’re so good with your tongue’.”
“You’ve heard that one?”
“Maybe once or twice.” He smiled modestly.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

I’m going to cheat and say the snippet I just shared with the dirty talk. Except if they said those words it would be R rated. Right? ☺

If you could have given your characters one piece of advice before the opening pages of the book, what would it be and why?

Oooh good question! I would tell Mallory not to let her fear of letting people down get in the way of living her life. And I would tell Joe not to give up on love. But then, if they listened to me, there wouldn’t be a story.

What are you currently working on? What other releases so you have planned for 2014?

I have a M/M/F ménage romance coming out as a part of Riptide Publishing’s Share the Love Christmas charity anthology – Three of Hearts.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt

Frustration swelled up inside her, a hot feeling of pressure and helplessness, and she hated feeling like that. Goddammit!
She wished Joe were there.
Goddammit again.
She closed her eyes, the feeling of missing him so intense she could barely breathe through it. Longing. Not just to see him, to touch him, to let him wrap her up in his arms and make her feel all safe and protected, but to talk to him. Tears burned the edges of her eyes and she squeezed them tighter, her fingers curling into her palms on the counter.
How could she feel like this about someone she’d met just over a week ago? Someone so completely inappropriate for her. And yet…someone so perfect for her.
Gah! What was she thinking?
She slid off the stool, threw out her garbage, tossed her plate and fork into the dishwasher, and headed to the bathroom to wash up for bed.
Her phone bleeped in her purse and she detoured to get it.
It was Joe.

You asked: You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. Where are you going and why?

Wow, so many places to choose from….hmm, I think I’m headed to Australia! I have always wanted to go there. It’s been on my dream bucket list forever. My itinerary would include a safari to the Outback, checking out the many points of interest, the night life, the food and the people. Who knows I could meet “THE ONE” there. LOL

I would make sure to ask for an opened return ticket. Who knows how long I would stay. I’m sure it would be hard to return. Sigh….it would be so much fun!

Thanks for the opportunity to share.

I was hooked by the snippets from this book. It would be so much fun to read. 🙂
