Men in Uniform by Sara Humphreys

bravetheheatWho loves a man in uniform?

ME!!! I also love a band of brothers and that’s why I simply had to write The McGuire Brothers series. These five sexy bros are all men in uniform and they are as devoted to each other as they are to their jobs. When the guys introduced themselves to me (I know that sounds weird but that’s kind of how it feels when the characters come to life in my head) one of the first things they told me about themselves was which uniform they wore.

Gavin, the hero in Brave the Heat is the oldest and the fire chief in their hometown. Ronan, the second born, is a K9 officer in New York City and a die-hard ladies man. His longest relationship, outside of his family, is with his partner, a bloodhound named Bowser. Tristan is the middle son, and admitted bad-boy. A former Navy SEAL, he is now freelancing as a gun for hire and bodyguard. The twins, Finn and Dillon, are the youngest of the bunch. Finn is an armed first responder in Miami and Dillon is an Air Force pilot but is on leave due to PTSD.

What I love most about these heroes—and all men in uniform—is their unwavering commitment, fiercely protective nature, and a clear sense of right and wrong. They are devoted to family and their mission—whatever that may be. All uniforms are sexy, except for maybe the UPS or mailman gear. If you find a hot mailman or UPS guy…please share.

To celebrate the release of my McGuire Brother series, I’m here to count down my some of my fave men in uniform from movies and television:

  • Josh Duhamel in Transformers: I know he didn’t have a big role but that boy made an impression in his fatigues.
  • Brad Pitt in Inglorious Bastards: World War II hotness and he’s out to get the Nazi’s. What’s better than that?
  • Mark Harmon in NCIS: He’s rarely in uniform but that silver fox has a steely stare that curls my toes.
  • Mel Gibson in The Patriot: I know, I know, you don’t usually think of a Revolutionary War uniform when asked for a hot hero but he’s pretty hot. The ponytail was a nice touch.
  • Patrick Swayze in North and South: Does anyone remember how steamy and sexy that mini-series was? Holy moly.

Gavin, and all of the McGuire brothers, wear their uniforms proudly and like most men in service, they are as devoted to their families as they are to their duties. I think it’s that quality which stands out above all the rest—devotion. Isn’t that what all of us want? We want to be loved, cherished, and protected and no one does that better than a man in uniform.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Is the torch he carries for her
Jordan’s life has not exactly worked out the way she expected. Tom Cruise in Top Gun.
Richard Geer in An Officer and a Gentleman.

I also love wounded warrior stories and just read His Lover To Protect by Kate Robert. It was really good and the H, Luke Jackson, was a wounded former AF Pararescuer.

  2. Amanda Thompson

I love Firefighters (Jennifer Bernard’s Bachelor Fireman *fans self*) and men in the military (Navy SEALs). In TV I love Johnny from Emergency! and Steve McGarrett from Hawaii Five-0…

  3. Texas Book Lover

I can’t think of a complete series of men in uniform but there are individual characters in a lot of series that wear uniforms I love. Like Jill Shalvis’ Sheriff Sawyer from her Lucky Harbor series. Out Robyn Carr’s Deputies Mack & Seth from Thunderpoint. And Bella Andre’s Sullivan series has Have who is a hot firefighter!

  4. Amy Rickman

Some of my favorite men in uniforms from the books I’ve read this past month are Liam Beckett from Bleeding Love, Merry from Hold On, Colt from For You and Mickey Donovan from Soaring.

  6. Kathleen Bylsma

I enjoy all series about men in uniform, regardless of their service of choice. It demonstrates commitment and responsibility, with humor thrown in to leaven the tension.

  7. ndluebke

First off my DH was a man in the military when we first met. In television, JAG was my favorite. Lots of hot guys in there. Then there is Tom S. in Blue Bloods. Lots of great ones out there.

  8. Colleen C.

Love Sharon Hamilton’s SEALs, Tawny Weber’s SEALS, and of course cops and firefighters too…

  9. Meredith Miller

Not sure if I have a favorite–I don’t watch much, but it’s not very often you see a not-so-sexy guy in uniform on television or in the movies!

  10. Vicki

I love Chicago Fire so I’d have to say Kelly and Casey. Tom Cruise in Top Gun and Ben Affleck in Pearl Harbor

  11. Mary C.

Love NCIS. An old favorite TV show is EMERGENCY featuring the crew of Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Station 51, particularly the paramedic team of Gage and DeSoto.

  12. lrhubble

Cynthia Eden has some seriously hot police detectives and ex-military men that are great. Mark Walhberg in Lone Survivor. There are a lot to choose from.

  13. Pennie

on TV I love the firefighters of Chicago Fire and the docs on Grey’s Anatomy (scrubs are uniforms :)) and in real life all the men and women of the military. As a Marine mom I love seeing my son in his uniform!

So many to choose from! I’d have to go with my fave – Sheriff Sawyer from Jill Shalvis’ Head Over Heels and the firemen from San Gabriel, Jennifer Bernard’s fireman series!

  17. Joye

There are a lot of them. My favorite is Denzel Washington in his white uniform at the end of CRIMSON TIDE wow

and don’t forget Demi Moore in A FEW GOOD MEN

  18. martha lawson

Gibbs from NCIS, even though he technically don’t wear a uniform! Any book with a Navy Seal in it!

  19. taswmom

My dad was such a handsome fireman! My husband was channel surfing the other day and came across the show Emergency. I remember having such a crush on (I think his name is) Randolph Mantooth? And I have to agree with several of you above on Leroy Jethro Gibbs. His smile still does it, doesn’t it!
