Today its is my pleasure to welcome back Harlequin Romance author Susan Meier to HJ!

Susan MeierSusan Meier is the author of 45 books for Harlequin and Silhouette and one of Guideposts’ Grace Chapel Inn series books, The Kindness of Strangers. Susan welcome,  Tell us what does the word “Romance” mean to you 🙂

Well, my favorite “romantic” thing my husband did happened about 2 years after we were married. We’d had a disagreement (our first really big one) and I was sure when I got home from work he’d be telling me that he was leaving. Instead, I came home to a house that smelled like roast beef and gravy! My favorite and a meal he hates. So I knew he was apologizing! LOL

So my favorite romantic things are simple. I like it when we’re alone in the house and can talk quietly…about real stuff! I like it when he surprises me with an afternoon trip to the movies. Simple things. 🙂

If you had to pick one book that made the biggest impression on you in 2012… ?

It would be a tie between Jennifer Probst’s THE MARRIAGE AGREEMENT and Laura Kaye’s HER FORBIGGEN HERO. Both were wonderful stories just different enough to really hold my attention..

What are you currently working on? What can we expect from you in 2013?

I’m currently working on an anthology for Entangled with the lovely and talented Jackie Braun, Barbara Wallace, and Shirley Jump. It’s a fun, fun group of connected stories and it’s just been fabulous working with these talented women!

In 2013 I have 3 releases from Harlequin romance, THE BILLIONAIRE’S BABY SOS, A FATHER FOR HER TRIPLETS and a Christmas story which I’ve tentatively titled, THE FAMILY CHRISTMAS SHE ALWAYS WANTED. I’m sure they’ll change that. LOL!

The triplets book is about a woman who desperately needs money when her husband leaves her with the trips, so she creates a wedding cake business to make extra cash and before she knows it she’s making enough money to support herself. But she’s got an abusive father she’s never confronted so when the hero enters her life, she knows she’ll never have peace unless she handles the situation with her dad. Same with her sister, who is the heroine in THE FAMIY CHRISTMAS SHE ALWAYS WANTED.

The BILLIONAIRE’S BABY SOS is a tad different. The family issues have more to do with siblings.

TBBSOSLet’s talk about your new release ‘The Billionaire’s Baby SOS’,  If you had to sum up book for the reader here…

Really, it’s the story of a guy working so hard to prove himself that he forgot love and happiness are more important than money.

What was your inspiration behind this story?

It’s the last book of an 8-book continuity, so Harlequin picked the story. But at a certain point, Claire and Matt began to feel like they belonged to me. Claire’s mom had died when she was young and her father became a lot like Matt. So she certainly didn’t want to get involved with another man who would ignore her. LOL I think it’s really a story about how we can get so involved in what we think we want that we are in danger of losing what’s really important!

If you had to pick your favorite scene from ‘The Billionaire’s Baby SOS’…

I love the scene where Bella finally gets her blanket! LOL. She’s orphaned and suddenly living with a guy she doesn’t know and he doesn’t want to go to his ex-wife’s house (Bella’s mom’s) because he doesn’t want to face his grief over losing the woman who might not have been his wife anymore, but she was a friend. So Bella sleeps without her blanket for days before Matt takes her over and when she sees her blanket she just falls into it. It’s so sweet!

Who would play Matt Patterson and Claire Kincaid in the movie version of your book? And why?

Channing Tatum…because he has the “look” Matt has but also because I love the way he plays emotional scenes. And Claire…Jennifer Lawrence. She is Claire in my head!

Susan thanks for a Fab interview 🙂

An excerpt from ‘The Billionaire’s Baby SOS’

“Yes. I’ll be five minutes, tops, while I gather a few things. You just have to make sure she doesn’t go too far or bump her head or anything like that.”
He glanced around. “Okay.” He caught her gaze again. “But we’re not done talking about this attraction.”
“I think we are. You’ve warned me off enough that I’m not even worried about it.”
She snorted a laugh. “What? You think you’re so irresistible that …”
He caught her by the waist and hauled her to him. Before she could take her next breath, his lips were on hers. Soft yet demanding, they moved over her mouth until she found herself opening her lips beneath his. He took advantage. His tongue plunged into her mouth.
Desire ripped through her, as her body became boneless. Her arms snaked around his neck. He tightened his grip on her waist and the kiss went on…
And on…
Sending sensations careening through her body, making her long for more.
Until Bella screeched.
Claire bounced away like a teenager caught kissing on the front porch by her parents.
Matt sucked in a breath. “Sorry.”
With arousal pulsing through her, his apology didn’t make sense. She blinked at him. “Sorry?”
“The kiss wasn’t supposed to go that far. It was to prove a point.” He rubbed his hand across the back of his neck. “I was hoping that …” He winced. “I thought if I kissed you we’d see the attraction was ordinary, and we’d…”
His words acted like water on a campfire. “You hoped I was a really crappy kisser?”
He winced. “Something like that.”
She gurgled a sound of disgust. This guy couldn’t be any more infuriating if he tried. How could she be so attracted to him? “I’m going to get my things.”
She turned to walk away but he caught her arm.
“I am sorry. But everything’s getting confused. I’m trying to tell you that I’m not a family man, not the settling down kind. Being with Bella is making me look like I might be…or maybe I should be. But I’m not.”
Her face grew tight with an emotion so strong yet so foreign she couldn’t even describe it. She’d never had a man tell her he was attracted to her as he tried to talk himself out of it. She wasn’t sure if she was humiliated or infuriated.
“I get it.”
“I don’t think you do. The family reunion I’m going to in Texas is a joke. My family is riddled with secrets and lies… No, I take that back. My family was built on secrets and lies. I became calloused to survive and I have survived. I’ve thrived. You’re not like the sophisticates I date. And if you get involved with me, you will end up hurt.”
She straightened her shoulders. What did he think she was? A lovesick schoolgirl? Ben had cured her of that. “Got it.” She turned to go, but pivoted around again. “And just for the record, you might be a great kisser, but I’d already realized you’re not a great catch. You’re blunt. You’re rude. You’re absolutely positive you’re always right. Well, this is one time you aren’t. I wouldn’t date you on a lost bet. You’re everything I avoid in a man. I learned that lesson young because my dad was exactly like you. Cool, efficient. Silent most of the time. And if that isn’t enough I had a boyfriend who used me. So don’t think I’m helping you because of your supposed charm. I’m helping you for Bella’s sake.” She took the two steps that separated them and got in his face. “You … are … perfectly … safe … with … me.”
With that she walked away and Matt scrubbed his hand across his mouth. Well, that hadn’t gone well. He’d had the best of intentions when he’d warned her off. She was a nice girl and she was attracted to him. And he didn’t want her to get hurt. Yet his good intention of sparing her feelings had actually ended up making her mad.
He blew his breath out on a sigh and walked over to Bella. Stooping down so he was on her level, he leaned in and whispered, “She’d probably kill me if I told her that she was even sexier when she yelled at me.”

I would ask why wasn’t I told before, I would ask how many boys and how many girls, their ages, and names. Then I would go to them and welcome them into my home. And hope that they would want to know us.

  2. Mary Preston

I would probably burst out laughing. I’m already one of 7 children. 12 is just mind boggling.

  3. Annwitch

Wow, that would take some getting used to. I would be a bit resentful at first, but I think it would be nice to have a bigger family. I have one brother and no extended family so it would be a new family dynamic.

  4. Megan Parsons

I have been through this before. At 13 I learned that I have 2 more sisters. Talk about craziness!

I grew up with 3 younger brothers. It might be fun to have some sisters. Thank you for sharing!

  6. Kai W.

If I found out that I have 5 siblings, I want to reach out and meet them and find out if one of my parents has been in touch or even part of their lives.

  7. Pennie M

That would mean I wouldn’t be the oldest any longer and could turn over the reins in the family 🙂 I would welcome them into the family and hope they would welcome me.

  8. Evelyn

If I found out I had half siblings I think I would be hurt because I didn’t get a chance to know them when we were little and form familial bonds. But I would definitely welcome them into my life and try to form a relationship with them nothing is more important than family I believe.

  9. Chris Mead

I would be shocked to learn I had more siblings, but I would definitely want to get to know them! Thanks for the giveaway, your book sounds great!

  10. CateS

Would love more siblings… there’s just the 3 of us and we all live in different states..

  11. susan meier

Coming from a family with eleven kids, I can’t even imagine some of the small families you describe! I think if we discovered we had more siblings, we’d just fold them into our existing group! LOL

But I think it would really shake things up for some of you!

I also had to laugh abut the “shock” factor of discovering you had more siblings. It would mean that at some point either your mom or your dad was in another relationship! And, yep! That is shocking. It’s so shocking for poor Elle and Matt that Matt can’t even deal with it at first. But eventually he starts to realize he’s nothing like the guy who is his step-dad and once he hears the low down on Clay, his real dad, he realizes how much he is like him.

    Seriously a fun, fun continuity!

Since my parents met when they were 12 and 14, have been dating since 14 and 16, and married for almost 50 years I would be shocked to find out I had half siblings in TX. I do, however, have many cousins there and love to visit them in Texas.

  13. Rita Wray

First I’d be shocked and then I would try to contact them as soon as possible.

  14. Tawnya Bentley

I actually wouldn’t be too shocked, well except for their ages, I know I’m the oldest. My mom walked across her high school graduation 8 1/2 months pregnant with me, my dad had graduated the previous year. But honestly my dad was never faithful so it would not shock me in the least to discover I had half siblings, and honestly unless they made a gesture of wanting to meet I would go about my life. I’ve lived this long without them, I don’t see a difference it would make.

  15. mylunar

Would love to know them, though at first I must be shock like crazy . I always wanted more siblings.

  16. Joanne B

First, I’d be surprised, then I’d wonder why my parents lied to me. One half- sibling would be enough to deal with but five? Wow. At least I’d have someplace warm to visit.

    • alisha woods

hit enter too soon 🙂 I think I would ask questions then head to Texas to at least see relatives if they didn’t want to meet

  17. Cindy H

I would be very shocked and then I would like to meet them. I’ve always wanted to go to Texas.

  18. Olga

If I had discovered I have 5 half siblings I would be shocked, surprised…but after that, I would like to meet them and get to know them.

  19. Leanna H

I think I would be mad at my parents for a while, but very excited yo meet my siblings.

  20. Shannon G.

Well after I picked myself up off the floor and had myself checked for a concussion I think I would like to meet them. Like pulling off a band-aid, do it all at once and it will be a lot easier. Then I’d figure out if there would just be emails and Christmas cards or if it seemed that we could get along a bit more than that. I guess it would depend on my age. At this point, eh…

  21. Fiery Na

I would be curious to meet them. Perhaps a little shy. Most of all I would be surprised as to why I was never told.
