Hi Robyn and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Undercover with the Earl!

Tell us about the book with this fun little challenge using the title of the book:

Undercover with the EarlU is for:  unusual circumstances where the heroine, Evie, has to pose as Queen Victoria
N is for: new series about the Brotherhood of the Sword, a secret organization that guards the Crown of England
D is for: dangerous situations
E is for: extremely hot hero, Bennett – I used Thor as my inspiration
R is for: red hair-Bennett comments on Evie’s wild red locks often
C is for: courage that Evie shows in the face of danger
O is for: obnoxious, which is what Bennett would say about her big, loud family
V is for: valiant, all the men in the Brotherhood of the Sword
E is for: enduring love
R is for:  really fun, fast-paced adventure

Please share the opening lines of this book:

It is a truth universally known that a girl entering her twenty-first year must be in want of a husband. But it was not a truth that Evelyn Marrington took to heart. She had no desire to marry now or any other time.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • While this is by no means a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, I do tip my hat to Austen’s most famous book by asking the simple question, what if Mary, the middle daughter, was the most interesting girl in the family.
  • This is the first series I’ve written this early in the Victorian era.
  • The Pygmalion storyline is a much-loved trope, but I wanted to do a slight variation on it – the same kind of set-up, but without the focus on the traditional training scenes.
  • I’ve always loved the Three Musketeers and I wanted to pay homage to that tradition without changing the setting and time-period that my readers expect from me. So I created the Brotherhood of the Sword, a covert organization that protects England’s monarch.
  • The working title for this book was To Marry an Earl, but that seemed too generic for me and I wanted something that gave a little insight into the storyline.

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

I want readers to have a good time, to finish the book with a big grin on their face. I want them to enjoy a fun, dialogue-rich romance with adventure and intrigue.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Book Info:

London, 1838

The handsome Earl of Summersby may just be the most eligible bachelor in London, but has no interest in a wife. As a member of the Brotherhood, Bennett Haile is far more vested in his undercover duties for the crown and protecting the Queen from would-be assassins. For now he has the perfect tool with which to lure out the villains—a young woman with an uncanny likeness to the queen.

The spirited Evelyn Marington is about to live out every country girl’s dream—becoming royalty overnight. Under the tutelage of the arrogant Earl of Summersby, she’ll have to fool the entire court that she is, in fact, the queen. But as danger threatens from every side, Bennett realizes that his lovely little protegé isn’t just placing her life in his hands… She’s stealing his heart.
