Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Kianna and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Couldn’t Ask for More!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Fake engagements are a dangerous business.
Bryan James’s job is on thin ice unless he can secure a contract with a popular design house. He knows his best friend’s sister can help—but her terms are more than he bargained for.

Alexis Devers’s debut fashion line is a hit. But when Alexis’s publicist tells buyers that it landed her a wealthy, gorgeous fiancé, Alexis needs to come up with one—fast. Bryan’s offer to strike a deal is perfectly timed. She’s more than willing—on one condition…

It’s the perfect plan…until feelings start getting in the way. Suddenly, the dangers of mixing business and pleasure become much more real than either of them expected.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

Thanks so much for letting me stop by to talk about COULDN’T ASK FOR MORE! It’s time to take a peek behind the scenes and get some exclusive tidbits on my creative process. Ready for the tea? Here it is.

  • Character Inspiration- When I start a book, I generally search online for images of actors, singers, models, and more to find people who look the way the characters do in my head. For this book, I found an actor and a singer. My inspiration for the hero, textiles executive Bryan James, is the actor BORIS KODJOE. Boris is known for his roles in the romantic dramas Brown Sugar and Love& Basketball, and currently stars on CBS’s Code Black. For more on Boris, visit his website (http://www.boris-world.com/)
For Alexis Devers, my fashion designer heroine, singer MELANIE FIONA fit the bill. Melanie is a Grammy Award winning Canadian R&B singer, known for such songs as “It Kills Me” and “Wrong Side of a Love Song.” You can find out more about Melanie at her website (http://melaniefiona.com/)
  • Book Title: This book has been through several title iterations. My original working title was FOREVER IN YOUR EYES. Fans of the R&B band Mint Condition will recognize that as the title of one of the songs on the band’s debut album: Meant to Be Mint. (If you haven’t heard it, here’s a link: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul-YHQzHe-s) I recommend you get this song in your life, stat. It’s a classic slow jam.)
  • Fraternity/Sorority Theme: The theme of black Greek organizations that runs through the book and the series is strong. Readers will see Alexis and Bryan have their “cute meet” at a step show, which is a centerpiece of Greek campus life. While I’m fascinated with fraternities and sororities, I was a bit too shy to have pledged in college (thought I am considering joining an alumni chapter these days). During my time at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina, my dorm room faced the “plots”, the designated area where these groups would hang out and socialize; I also crossed this area, the Quad, on my way to class every day. Those observations helped influence the books in this series. For more information on these organizations, visit The National Pan-Hellenic Council, their governing body, at this website.
