A Deal Before the Altar by Rachael Thomas is a marriage of convenience trope and the author’s debut novel. The plot is good and well written with great passionate and emotional moments.

Georgina is a strong heroine who never hesitates to stand up against the hero. She is always in the defensive mode, ready to raise her guard at the slightest reason. She will do anything for her sister’s happiness and has always put her sister’s wishes before her own. Santos is a charismatic hero who wants to be in control at all times.

Emma and Carlos make a blink and you miss appearance in the story and whatever I know about them is through the main characters. A little more back story on the main characters, especially the heroine would have helped because most of the times I was left confused by their actions. I was never quite fully invested in the story and it would have been very easy for me to just leave it unfinished, the concept kept me going on but the characters most of the time left me baffled with their motives and actions.

Overall, A Deal Before the Altar by Rachael Thomas is a good attempt on the marriage of convenience trope but it fell short and failed to seal the deal.
