REVIEW: Dark Alpha’s Night by Donna Grant

Dark Alpha’s Night by Donna Grant is the fifth book in the Reaper’s series. I haven’t read any of the previous books, but I would recommend reading them in order. There are a lot of characters mentioned and there’s an ongoing storyline to find and stop Bran, a former Reaper. I haven’t read the previous books and felt a little lost with all the characters and the previous attempts the Reapers made to stop Bran.

This series is loosely tied to the Dark Kings series. Those who have read it are familiar with the Reaper named Daire, who had been following Rhi, one of the Light Fae. Having read that series, I was curious to learn more about Daire and why Death was having him follow the Light Fae.

Ettie and her sisters grew up being told stories of the Fae, and being trained to fight in preparation for a battle that was supposed to be coming. While her sisters don’t believe in the Fae, Ettie believes they may be part Fae. When Bran contacts her under the guise of being interested in her romantically, Daire and the other Reapers need to discover what their connection is and why Bran is interested in her. At first Ettie is weary of Daire, but as they attempt to figure out Bran, the pair grow close and Daire knows he has to figure out what Bran wants from her before it’s too late.

I enjoyed the book. There’s plenty of mystery surrounding the reason Bran is interested in Ettie and what he’s searching for. I found it interesting to learn why Bran was trying to steal all of Erith, aka Death’s, power. It’s also clear there are feelings between Cael, the leader of the Reapers, and Erith, and the weaker she gets, the more she shuts him out. I”m looking forward to their story and to see how it works itself out.

I liked Daire and Ettie.. Ettie is a strong character, and while she’s initially weary of what was going on, she had no problem jumping into the fray and helping the Reapers deal with Bran. I liked Daire in the Dark Kings series, as he becomes a protector and confidant for Rhi. I enjoyed him in this book, as well. He gives Ettie the time she needs to come to terms with who she was, and he immediatly protects her sisters, as well. While I’m a little disappointed it wasn’t revealed why Death had previously had him following Rhi, I’m hoping it will eventually be revealed in either furture Dark Kings books or in future Reapers books.

I would recommend this for readers of paranormal romance. Readers who have enjoyed the previous books in the series or those who have enjoyed the Dark Kings series, will most likely enjoy this book, as well.
